We had the good fortune of connecting with Sirintip Phasuk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sirintip, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m currently working on releasing my forthcoming album “Carbon” which is based on the causes and effects of climate change. For each of the thirteen tracks on the album, I’ve found ways to bring awareness to each topic by translating data into pitches, sampling plastic trash and more. “Carbon” will be displayed in an interdisciplinary way where audiences will be invited to immersive exhibitions, interactive websites, live projections to live performances and more.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I was born in Bangkok, Thailand and moved to Stockholm, Sweden as an eleven year old. I’ve been in New York now for almost eight years. I’m a true third culture kid by living in three continents for almost equal amounts of my life. These experiences have informed my music which is hard to categorize. I moved to New York due to my love for jazz but while living and studying jazz here, I’ve realized that the best way for me to honor this art form is to contribute to it with my perspectives and influences. Growing up in Sweden, I’ve learned a lot about the tradition of songwriting (ABBA, Max Martin) and music production. While in Thailand, I studied Thai traditional instruments and later on spent about seven years dancing Thai traditional dance. My music is now a blend of the three influences. The core is good singable songs. I showcase my love for jazz through my harmonic and rhythmic language as well as my use of improvisation and using my voice as an instrument live. The Thai influences are present through sampled Thai instruments which I recorded in Thailand in 2015 for my unreleased debut EP and through Thai tuned Moog synthesizers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
New York has so many incredibly great spots to visit but I’ll take this opportunity to give my uptown neighborhood some extra love. The best park in NYC is Inwood Hill Park, it’s at the most northern point of Manhattan and you can find Native American caves here from the Lenape people who lived here before the arrival of Henry Hudson in 1609. When you walk around in the woods, you can’t believe you’re in the concrete jungle of Manhattan. During the winter, you can even cross country sky between the trees.. A walk along the Hudson River is also a must, the view here is impeccable and you can walk the entire length of Manhattan from Inwood down to Battery Park.

The Hudson is a bar and restaurant right by the water which is the perfect place to go during the summer. For music, you must go to NuBlu, you’ll find some of the most cutting edge artists playing here!
