Hi Empress Varnado + Dare Amyson, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Urban Wax Creative was founded in Long Beach, California by co-founders Dare Amyson and Empress Varnado. Frustrated with the lack of access to creative spaces for their personal media and communal projects, the two partners developed a concept that would allow them to provide a “ safe space” for BIPOC creatives and the Long Beach community at large to nurture and refine their artistic endeavors. Urban Wax Creative is an all-in-one Podcast, Music, and Photography studio built to help you innovate, create, and refine your content. Consider us your “home studio” and a gathering spot for you to produce quality entertainment that will make a cultural impact!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our mission is simple – to be a cultural hub that empowers the creative community in Long Beach to nurture and refine their talents. We envision a world where everybody is tapped into their creative ingenuity with the help of Urban Wax Creative.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
1. Definitely go to the Bluff at cherry Beach and have a picnic while overlooking the beach. 2. Tantalum Restaurant at the Marina is definitely a good choice for food, music, and vibes!
3. For late-night parties, hang out on Pine Avenue, there are so many options for a good time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We want to shoutout all of the creatives in Long Beach, CA. Long Beach is slept on when it comes to art and culture, but as Long Beach natives, we feel that it is our duty to amplify the creative community in, ” The City By The Sea!”
