Meet Jordan JorWish” | Law Student & Lifestyle Influencer”

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan “JorWish” and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My YouTube channel shows other young Black girls that it is totally possible to live your life and pursue a legal career. My channel candidly documents my life and journey, providing my audience with honest advice and information. Because less than 3% of lawyers are Black women, I want to use my platform to encourage more young women to join the profession to fill in the gaps and create a better future for the upcoming generation.
My channel started with me documenting my college experience at UCLA. Now, I provide admissions advice and insight, ranging from tips on how to write Personal Statements to my LSAT tutoring recommendation. The legal industry can feel exclusive and overwhelmingly hard to break into. As someone who will be the first lawyer in my family, I wanted to create a space to help others navigate this process so that they won’t be as confused as I was.
Additionally, I vlog my entire Law School experience starting from the summer before even starting 1L and will continue to document my journey until I graduate this school year.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I really just grab my camera or phone and record myself. I don’t fake anything for the internet, and I really try to give my audience a realistic sense of what Law School is like. Of course, there are personal somethings that I just don’t post, but I think my personality and authenticity set me apart from others.
It’s not easy consistently posting on YouTube. Editing videos takes several hours, and with my busy school schedule, it can be hard to find the time. I try to really stay disciplined about my content schedule, and remembering that there are thousands of people who appreciate my perspective really keeps me going.
I’ve learned several lessons along my Influencer journey. The main ones would probably be to literally be yourself. Don’t put on a fake voice, don’t fake your posture; just be yourself, and those who resonate with you will keep watching. I’m also learning to say no and to know my worth. Many brands will lowball Black content creators, and sometimes you get so excited that a brand wants to work with you that you forget that you deserve adequate compensation for your hard work. So now I’m learning that it’s ok to say no and it’s ok to negotiate with brands that want to work with me.
I want the world to know that several other people and I are multidimensional. I don’t want to be placed in a box just because I’m in Law School or just because I’m a Black Woman. And I want people to know that you should try not to care what people think and just live for yourself because life is too short and precious to have regrets!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are definitely going to Saddle Ranch for brunch and getting on the mechanical bull! We’d probably hit La Condesa for cute drinks and food and then go to whatever club seemed the most lit that night. The best nights in LA are never planned; you just end up somewhere and have the time of your life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m so grateful to have access to so many people who support me. My parents, sister, and close friends definitely deserve a shoutout. I love them all so much! I appreciate them listening to my dramatic rants, keeping me calm, and encouraging me every step. My primary mentors in this entire Law School process were Anthonya and Teeanna. They are one year ahead of me, and I’m so glad I have such amazing Black women to guide me on my journey. Of course, shout out to my HUSL community and all of my mentors there. I want to shout out to all my subscribers and everyone who supports my content. And I want to thank everyone vulnerable enough to document themselves on social media because that kind of visibility really does help people.
