Meet Alane Grace | Freelance Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alane Grace and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alane, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Becoming the artist I am today just sort of fell onto my lap. I was drawing fanart for fandoms I was currently obsessed with at the time and realized “Oh, I can make money out of something I enjoy making?” It’s the only path I’ve ever known. In another timeline, I’d be currently pulling my hair out trying to earn whatever degree I need to be a doctor per my mother’s wishes.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think I’m known to draw a plentiful of Fairyfrost (Jack Frost x Tooth Fairy from Rise of the Guardians) fanart. It’s what I’m proud of the most. They’re the comfort characters that I turn to when times get rough. If I’m not drawing them in their original look or universe, I imagine them in a different story/universe yet keep the same dynamics they have originally. I could gush about them all day long!
Social Media wise…It’s quite a mystery really; How did I garner this many followers with just drawing Fairyfrost. Most popular artists I’m mutual with either mostly draw original or multi-fandom art. Me? It’s almost always the same two characters. (That is until I got into Genshin Impact last year’s summer.)
Animation Industry-wise, I had my first role as a Background Painter for Crunchyroll’s Onyx Equinox. I wholeheartedly thank, Sofi Alexander, for giving me the opportunity. After Onyx Equinox, I was connected to another BG paint job for season two of Hulu’s Solar Opposites. Turning down to be on season three was a hard decision. BG painting is great! I love it! But after a while, I started to feel I was going nowhere. BG paint is not something I want to do as a sole profession. That’s when I decided to get back to online schooling at CG Master Academy.
This was about two years ago. Ever since then, I found more of myself in what I want to do.
For now, I’m content with the freelance job I have as a character artist for Cartoon Network. Doing some commissions here and there and working on book illustrations…I will eventually have to go find a steady income job again to keep up with bills haha. But I know what I want to do once I have the resources and time I require. *CoughmakingaWebtooncough*.
BASICALLY, to move forward is to take a step back. Better to think and consider where you want to be than to head down to one that will confuse you even further. (Hopefully, you get what I mean?)

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Although I currently live in California, New York City is my heart.
I would take them to YaYa Tea, A dollar dumpling place down an alley on Mosco Street. Or If we’re feeling fancy, maybe some afternoon tea at Lady Mendl or Prince Tea House.
We would do some window shopping at Soho/Noho or the mall at Columbus Circle or Hudson Yards. Maybe go to a couple of designer shops, gawk at the prices, and get judgemental looks from the sales associates.
Visiting community gardens can be relaxing. One in mind that holds precious memories is right by my middle school, Tompkins Square Middle School. There are two, but I’m talking about the smaller one.
We would also take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge or Central Park. Take some baking/cooking classes maybe? There are tons being offered on the Lower East Side.
But if it’s mandatory to have one touristy location, it would be Times Square. Just not for too long, Bryant Park is a little better and it’s only a few blocks away.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to Hayleen, Miranda, Pip, and Tris!
As well as my best high school buddies, Ren and Danny!
