We had the good fortune of connecting with Stan Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stan, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue my career in film and photography years ago as i studied and worked as a professional recording and mixing engineer. I fell in love with still photos, black and whites mainly. That side told a story audibly but the visuals put everything together. It’s a shorter story that the image can tell just by looking at the various elements in that photo. Film, well, i can put together a story or someone elses vision of their own story in a creative way. It has always been in me since a child. I love to create things, tell a good story, let peoples imagination take them somewhere new. I spent alot of time creating and one day I really realized that i could do this for a living. I mean i could actually see myself doing this for the rest of my natural life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I do is ART! I take the vision of the client and put form to it, rather it be audibly or visually. Most of the photographers i know, do great work and i adore the majority of them. I like to step into a different lane and focus on the soul of the client. The soul of the art we are creating. In the studio, i hear the song they want and i focus on giving them the song they desired! Visually, i see the elements of what can make the shot not just another good photo but what will make it a great photo. Like (WOW)! I’ve gotten to a level in my career where average just doesn’t cut it. It has to be magnificent! It took alot of time learning what not to do to get here. Many many many times banging my head against the wall wondering how this shot and that shot was either out of focus, the lighting was bad or the shot was just not very good. I’ve lost potential consistent clients and maybe some potential future clients due to some of the not so good work. But i studied, watched many tutorials, watched videos and practiced my butt off to get as good as i am and i am still learning. One big lesson was to not give up. Keep shooting and keep going so i can get better. So I did. I have multiple brands, South City Entertainment Studios and Doinit Films & Photo. Both are my loves and I will put as much effort in a $500 project as i will in a $5,000 project. My work moto is to keep going! I don’t sleep until my body and mind is tired. I look to make the best product possible!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If anyone was to come visit me i would take them to my favorite places 1st to get a feel for what they like. Food wise, it’s so many restaurants to choose from. I love seafood so Angry Crab would definetly be 1 spot to hit. Another would be Bluewater Grill. A couple different taco spots too, like Joyride Taco House. I would definetly take them to the Gun range as i Love to shoot!! I MEAN LOOOOVVVVEEEE IT!! I try to go at least once a month. It’s relaxing to me and so many of my friends have never been. Hit a couple jazz spots like Chars where we can listen to some live music! Bowling is another one of my favorite things so we would hit a few lanes at Bowlero in Christown! Arizona has alot of things to do depending on the time of year so it’s always something to do!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife deserves alot of credit! She stood by me through it all. The good, the bad and the ugly. She has supported me when i did not work a day job and was only doing my craft full time. I brought in little money a month to help with the bills and she made she everything was covered. She believed in me! My family has always stood by me and encouraged me along my journey. My beautiful kids have all adopted my (work for yourself) mentality and stood by me when daddy was not there. They understood and loved me more for what i taught and showed them in the past many years. I’ve only had a handful of people in my life that were able and seen my vision that gave me a hand when needed to point me in the right direction and to the right people, to them i am eternally grateful.
