We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelley Meche’tte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelley, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
One of the major habits that has played a role in my success is to have a plan…for the day…for the week…for the month. Having a plan keeps me on schedule. Knowing what needs to be done and being able to check that off of my “list” for the day motivates me to do more and accomplish more. I am usually up by 7am most days, whether weekday or weekend. I don’t like to feel as though my day has been wasted. Plus I enjoy the more serene part of the day. My house is quieter, the outside noise is less and I am able to take in the day at a slower and much more calm pace. Being able to plan my day and wake up before too much “life activity” has been key in keeping me on track and successful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Certified Life Purpose Coach. I believe that we find LIFE when we discover Purpose. I believe it even more…because I have lived it. I was married with 2 children, sitting in the mirror doing the “ugly cry” when I realized that I hadn’t truly discoved “me” outside of the titles I lived; wife, mother, employee, etc. I had decided to stay home with my children instead of working outside of the home. But no one told me that this came with a possible identity crisis. What I discoved also was that I hadn’t healed from a past relationship that had happened many years prior. It was a verbally abusive relationship, that I unfortunately still had a bit of residue from. As I stood there trying to figure out what I liked about myself and who I was…I cried even more. That’s when I decided to take myself on a personal journey of awareness and self-discovery. I found out what I loved…what I didn’t love…things that made me happy…unhappy. Once done, I realized that what I loved most…were women; empowering them to understand self and live a life of completion by knowing themselves. Part of that was understanding purpose! My purpose…was to show other women how to discover and develop theirs…so that they wouldn’t have to sit in a mirror crying one day because they were unsure of who they were without a “title”. (I had already done that FOR them). It’s been a wonderful, bumpy, thrilling, frustrating road. And I have loved ALMOST ever moment of it (lol). But even the frustrating days won’t stop me from doing my part to create positive impact in the lives of women. Women are depending on me to encourage them to come to terms with the fractures in their lives…recognize the power in their lives and show them how to live out their destinies. This is what I was made for. It’s what I’m great at. It’s what I’m PURPOSED for!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow. This is probably a terrible question for me because I am a homebody. lol I would probably have to know what it is they enjoy doing for me to try to give any suggestions.  As for places to eat however, I love a great seafood restaurant.  The Crab Shack is my favorite.  And perhaps indoor skydiving.  That seems like a fun activity.  I haven’t done it yet, but that’s definitely on my “list”

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family! They have been essential in my road to success and even personal discovery. When I am working on a new project, they are the ones who help. When I attend speaking engagements, they set up tables, sell books, manage my day and more. And when things do not work out as planned, they are the ones to catch my tears…help me regroup and lift me with their love. Having them be apart of the successes and the learning curves has made this journey much better. I adore my family with all of my heart and am so blessed to have them.
