Meet Letty Cabrera-Calvo | CEO of Vera Mona

We had the good fortune of connecting with Letty Cabrera-Calvo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Letty, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was tasked to develop a product or service for a graduate business course. My first job out of High School was for a makeup counter and I always struggled with removing pigment from brushes without having to wet them. That is when I had that light bulb moment and decided to invent a product that would instantly remove makeup from a brush without the use of any liquids.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing up, I never really knew what my talent was. When I first invented Color Switch®, I realized that my brain worked a little differently than others when it comes to product development. Looking back, I have always looked at any and all products and thought of ways to improve them. This is my passion and my gift. I am able to see a problem and solve it with a product. I asked collogues, friends and family members if they also thought about solving problems all the time and they all answered “No”, and this is when I knew what my gift was and really honed in to it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Temecula where we have over 50 wineries just 2 minutes from our home. I would book a bed and breakfast and spend the entire week in wine country. Some of the fun things we would do is visit a spa, go on hikes, have delicious meals, go salsa dancing, and of course visit as many wineries as possible.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends. I have been in business for 9 years now and my friends and family have supported me every step of the way. When I first told everyone close to me about my idea, they were all on board and were extremely supportive. It is very important to have a strong circle of friends and family that hold you up in the good times and in the not so good times. Businesses fluctuate drastically at times, and it is important you have a strong support group to lean on.
