We had the good fortune of connecting with Ian MacLeod and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ian, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Having a solid well tailored Morning routine will set you up for a successful day. A “successful” day is different each day and dependent on the person, but at least by planning out your day, you can learn how to maximize your time, energy and focus. Journaling coupled with a short walk is a great way to process your thoughts, express feelings and examine the actions you take as well as the situations you are in. The time can also be spent on just simply organizing the day into its various tasks in a manner that is in line with your greater goals.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nirvana Strength is a wellness and fitness facility that focuses on vitality and longevity as a primary focus to life. We define wellness as an active pursuit of our chosen activities that lead to optimal health. By returning to a more natural, ancestral or holistic lifestyle we can create a daily practice that increases our health span by taking a proactive and preventative approach to physical and mental health.

Curating the culture and environment is of paramount importance in the development of Nirvana Strength as it is significantly different than what we typically find in the majority of the fitness industry. We are not just a gym, but a space that truly focuses on the individual. Supporting members in their own personal development, removing the typical distractions of what is expected from typical training facilities that tend to focus primarily on physical appearance and perceived ability largely while sacrificing long term health and actual performance improvements.

There are many challenges to help facilitate the change in mindset from the average fitness facility that continues to promote a false sense of health and performance. We do this through developing an amazing group of coaches that provide a next level individual experience in our group classes. Our classes as well are specific to the areas in which we want to see improvement. These would include but not limited to shoulder, hip and joint mobility classes, flexibility classes that address all the weak and pain points most adults typically face from daily modern living and skill specific classes that help shift focus towards learning movement patterns that are more sustainable in the long term than just achieving a particular body type.

We are not just a gym, we are an all encompassing facility that helps people return back to the body and truly realize what their bodies are capable of.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When visiting Bali, Indonesia, for sure you will want to visit Canggu as it has become the new center of Bali. While here you can enjoy the beach, beach clubs, amazing selection of food from all of the world and hit up the speak easy scene in the evening. You will want to get enjoy the spa, sun and training at Nirvana Strength. There are plenty of things to do in Canggu, but if you want to head out a bit more, I would recommend going to Uluwatu and Ubud for 1-2 days to take in the different areas. In ubud (more forests) you can check out waterfalls and the monkey forest. In uluwatu, you can go to the various beach/day clubs and get some surfing in. All locations in Bali have fantastic food options.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many great coaches and individual professionals that have been invaluable in providing support and encouragement that have led to the greater development and growth that I have had personally as well as with Nirvana Strength. The introduction into the philosophies of Stoicism and Buddhism were a catalyst for the overall change in mindset and direction my life took. This led to the introduction to the many that are proponents of critical thinking and have not become so easily influenced by this larger problem we are facing with current establishments that work to minimize the work done those that go against the corporate components of the industries we are all a part of.
