We had the good fortune of connecting with Frosti Jonsson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Frosti, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Wearing many hats for what I do, being a producer, song writer an artist means you´re juggling with many things at the same time. So setting up my operation as a business is all about a change of mindset, get focused and start work with specific goals in mind, short term and long term, and assign value what I am doing. What I do as a producer, artists or a content creator is of value to someone and starting a business is about moving away from “this is just a hobby” mindset has helped me find my worth.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I released my first album under my artist name Bistro Boy (www.bistroboy.net) in 2012 and have since then relased number of albums, EPs, Remixes and singles which i´m proud of. I´ve learned so much working on those albums as well as being fortunate to work with many great people and artists from all over the world which is very rewarding. I love to work with singers so my music goes beoynd the world of instrumental electronica which has been bulk of my released work. When working solo, you´re a little bit stuck in your own world which can be good but also inhibiting at the same timel. It is definitely challenging to work with other people and let your guard down for the sake of an outcome you´re not ccompletely in control of, and that is the best part. Allowing myself to be vulnerable and learn from others has been a challenge but it has also turned out to be extremely rewarding and help me grow as a person, artists and a producer. I guess my music has it´s own tone, vibe and texture and bringing my point of view to the table when collaborating or producing other artists has turned out to be a blessing. But it definitely has not always felt like. We like to second guessing everything we do all the time and it has taken time for me to trust my own judgement and artistic vision and unapologetically bring it to the table with a little more confidence.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I´m currently living in Tampa, Florida which has about the same population as Iceland, my home country. Tampa has a lot to offer and I am still discovering new things about the city and the greater metropolitan area. If I were to give an itinerary for a nice day out, I´d start with a two hour or so boat tour on the Hillborougs River leaving from the Tampa History Center Dock. When done, I´d do the 40 min or so riverwalk to Armeture Works, once the storage and maintenance facility for Tampa Electric’s (TECO) streetcars, now-turned restaurants, cafes and gift shops for a late lunch and a pint. When done, I´d take you to my favorite place in all of Tampa, the 1926 Tampa Theatre, in the heart of downtown Tampa, to catch a movie classic. The theater was designed by famed theater architect John Eberson and built by Paramount Pictures and still to this day every show opens with live performance on the “The Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ”, a 1,400-pipe organ originally installed to accompany silent films when the Tampa Theatre opened in 1926. Absolute gem!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people who have helped me find my path and get to where I´m at. Being introduced to music and taught to play an instrument at an early age, thanks to my parrents, is one of the the greatest gift I´ve received, and has had more influence on my life´s path than anything else. Music became an integrated part of my life and has helped me get through m most challenging moments in my life. Later in life I returned to music after getting introduced the most amazing people at Möller Records, a small music label in Iceland, releasing my first EP album release (Solheimar) which was the creative kick and boost I needed to get back into music. I would also mention Jody Friedman at Licenseyourmusic.com who has been a great mentor helping me get into the world of Sync and licensing but ofcourse there are handfull of others who have helped my along the way one way or another, people I´ve worked with as well as my husband who has been super supportive and helped me hold high standards for myself and for what I do.
