We had the good fortune of connecting with Temiloluwa Motajo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Temiloluwa, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
We believe that every hair type matters and every hair can thrive. So at Temini Hair Tribe, we are aimed at enlightening, educating and training individuals on how they can nurture and grow a healthy hair.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
From time memorial, Africans struggled with taking care of their hair. Hot combs to relaxers and chemicals, people kept moving from one means to the other just so they could tame and handle the African hair. Thankfully, the hair niche has gradually learnt to embrace the use of natural herbs, oils and methods in caring for the African hair and Africans are learning to not just care for their hair but also rock it with pride.
Temini Hair Tribe is excited and proud to be one of the new voices bringing about a positive change in the hair niche.
We don’t just believe that natural hair can be cared for, we believe that every hair can be cared for and every hair can thrive.
Be it locs, relaxed hair, textured hair, afro, natural hair, kinks etc, we embrace and educate on various ways to care for the hair.
It’s not been an easy ride as a lot of folks out there are still ignorant and not so receptive. But we’d still keep on enlightening and educating people till they come to know how to nurture their hair.
As a Creative Director, I’ve had to take on trainings and also had to read wide on the hair and all there is to it. I’m not there yet as learning never ends, but I’d still keep reading, researching and in return educating and teaching on the African hair and its care.
My hair is a living witness to the fact that African hair can thrive. Being a very artistic person, I tried various unique hairstyles on my hair but I was doing it the wrong way until 2020 when I decided to take my hair serious and level up my hair game. That single decision I took as regards taking my hair serious in 2020 yielded in my hair getting fuller, longer and even healthier.
My hair is still a work in progress and is thriving.
I know that many young ladies and guys are out there who don’t think their hair can thrive but Temini Hair Tribe is here to not only train them on how to care for their effectively but also to enlighten and debunk hair myths as well as see results in people’s hair health.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d definitely take them to a park or to the beach or even a zoo. I love natural and serene air spaces.
I love nature!
A nice resort to try out different foods to eat ain’t such a bad idea as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout-out goes to Michael Inioluwa Oladele. His love for natural hair made him to pick interest in mine and times when I wanted to cut my hair when it was stunted, he kept encouraging me to keep growing it.
He inspired me to take my hair journey serious and that in turn translated into the hair community and brand called Temini Hair Tribe.
