We had the good fortune of connecting with Damon Horton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Damon, what principle do you value most?
Respect. In my opinion as a man, respect is everything. From what you stand for, to the way you treat people, it all stems from respect. I pride myself in being a genuinely good person overall in life and a lot of that stems from respect.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is that I create things that I like. I don’t necessarily follow trends or do “what’s in” I just make what I like and am confident that people will gravitate to it. I believe I got to where I am today professionally because I didn’t want to be complacent. I’ve tried many things, working a 9-5, cooking, but none of those things were fulfilling. I’m doing what fulfills me. I took a risk, stepped out on faith! Was this easy? No not at all, the biggest challenge in my opinion was funding and figuring out where and how to start. When it comes to marketing, pricing, how to use equipment and etc. A lesson I’ve learned along the way is to not expect or feel entitled to the support of my friends and family. Complete strangers will fall in love with what I do or (anyone does) before actual friends and family. Those strangers some time become family. Im excited to showcase my new designs. I want the world to know that we’re just getting started.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I’d probably start off by showing them my old neighborhood, one of the places that inspires me most. Then take them to Venice beach u can’t visit LA and not go to Venice. I’m not really like a club person but I do have a few local bars I like to go to and play pool so we’d more then likely do that. I typically go bowling maybe once or twice a week so I’d take them bowling. Go check out Hawkins burger, some real good hood eats lol. Go for a hike in either Hollywood or palos verde. If it’s summer time swing by the free the energy there is always amazing. Just to make a few that’s some of the things I’d show them

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a few people that honestly give me support in more ways then I think they know wether it was just giving me confidence in knowing I could do it, directing me where to go to get certain materials, inspiring me or funding some of my businesses I won’t list how they’ve helped individually but I’ll list who I can honestly say help support me most. Ryan, Demaria, Mack, Tony, Janae, Kenneth and eric.
