We had the good fortune of connecting with Silvia Trabelsi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Silvia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Becoming an entrepreneur was always a far-fetched dream for me. It was a desire to operate a business, and be the decision-maker, and mostly, in a creative field. I enjoyed the arts — writing, reading, and nature — but did not see the opportunity for a full-time, risk-free, successful career. However, after being a part of several weddings, and helping with their design and decor, this dream of mine was planted. I was the maid of honor and only bridesmaid for a small wedding of a dear friend. She loved flowers also, but, did not see it in her budget to have centerpieces. I offered to create centerpieces for her as a gift. While arranging the flowers together in the church kitchen, I had my moment where I felt God tugging at my heart. This was an opportunity I wanted, felt a need, to pursue. Being able to serve in her time of need, working with my hands, turning my creative wheels to design, all while delicately handling the beauty of God’s creation, the moment embodied so much of what I loved.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Delivering what the client desires is a way for me to love in that time of need; be it the focal point of a bride’s dream bouquet, or the casket spray that will be a lasting memorial to a passing loved one.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You can’t come to Jersey, without a visit to the Jersey Shore. I would visit the beautiful and family-friendly beach at Ocean Grove & head down to Point Pleasant for rides, boardwalk cruising, and grab a slice at Joey Tomatoes. I’d also make a stop on the way back north to The Seafarer for a laid back time, enjoying live music, with more sand in our toes. We’d have to visit some local favorites (yes, all food related ) such as dinner at the Ria Mar and ice cream for dessert at Magnifico’s in East Brunswick. And, hopefully make time for a day in NYC for a walk through Central Park to my favorite place in the city, The MET; enjoy the walk down Fifth Ave for some macaroons at Laduree & play tourist at the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, or another favorite, Bryant Park.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This most amazing journey can be accredited to first, the Creator of all things. “But God is a great lover of beauty, as we can see from the collection of his work that hangs in the gallery of the universe” (‘Art for God’s Sake’ by Philip Graham Ryken). He placed the calling on my heart, he opened the doors, he provided the gift and ability. I also thank my mother in this journey. She passed unexpectedly in 2012. Her name means “flower” in Spanish, and when she passed, I was once told that the way I live will honor her. I can find no better way to honor her in my day to day, and in this work that I do.
