Meet Yamileth Arteaga | Dress Maker and Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yamileth Arteaga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yamileth, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I was a little girl, I knew fashion design was my dream, I went to fashion school and pretty soon jumped into working in the fashion industry as a seamstress for bridal shops and a working doing alterations for celebrities. I felt so inspired being able to work on major designers gowns for red carpet events. I decided it was time to make my own designs. Making my own wedding dress was such a beautiful experience. Soon people were reaching out to me. The business came to me and that was such an amazing feeling. Thanks to social media and family and friends for encouraging me to post photos of my work. It was completely new but I knew I could do it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
By being a wedding dress designer, I’m able to offer more originality. Creating Custom pieces is my favorite part of it all. I focus more on the bridal side of the industry. So for a bride is very important to have a unique and very personal style. Most of the time they simply know what they want but haven’t found it anywhere and that’s where I come in. I can bring that vision to life and I’ve been so lucky to have pretty amazing brides, that have trusted me to create their gowns and it makes me feel accomplished when they send me photos of their wedding day.
Running my business Is not easy, it takes so so much time and dedication. I also have 2 sons to take care of. But I’m glad I have the support of my husband to help me whenever possible. It wouldn’t be possible without his support.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I get time to go anywhere. Me and my family love nature, so we take a drive to an oceanic area. Palos verdes has been our most frequently visited area, where you get to hike with a nice view.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been my number 1 supporter. He’s always there for me cheering me up, complimenting my work, encouraging me to do more, I couldn’t do it without him. My mom has influenced me since I can remember. I’d see her sewing all kinds of garments. Whenever I wasn’t sure about something I’d turn to her for help. And lastly my mentor Jose Flores, a business owner in Hollywood, a very talented and knowledgeable man. He gave me my first opportunity to make gowns right out of college, with no experience he believed in my talent and gave me the opportunity that taught me so much.
