Meet Kaylee S | Small Business Owner & Student

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylee S and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaylee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always loved art of all kinds such as drawing, painting, and calligraphy. When I made my first sticker out of parchment paper, tape, and scissors during the COVID-19 lockdown, I knew it was something I enjoyed. I loved the thought of having my own designs on my own things like my laptop, and thought maybe others would too.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Not only do I own this business, but I also am a student working towards becoming a Dental Hygienist. I haven’t heard of many other artists in the healthcare field, but I seem to think they fit together nicely. While I am in school perfecting my projects and taking careful notes, I am also doing that for Stickers by Kay.

I am most proud of how confident I have become in sharing my designs and making videos for my business. I am quite shy, so at first everything was intimidating — now, everything is much easier and is super fun! I have sent stickers to way more places than I would have ever thought, and I definitely have learned some lessons along the way. One in particular that comes to mind is always plan WAY ahead! You have to get designs ready the season before you need them, that way they have time to make it to people who may live far from where you ship!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be honest, I am a homebody. I love just relaxing at home and putting on my favorite show. If my friend were to visit the area though, I would want to go to my nearby shopping mall to pick out some fun new clothing pieces. I love me some food — so going out for lunch and dinner would happen several times throughout the week. Something I currently do with friends is grab coffee and sit at a park. I find it a nice way to catch up and relaxing to spend some time outside!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom absolutely deserves a shoutout! She got me some of my first supplies when I started out, and has shown support constantly. She promotes my designs, uses the stickers herself, and even gives me ideas of what stickers to create next.
