Meet Duke Vang | Owner of Team Vanguard

We had the good fortune of connecting with Duke Vang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Duke, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting a business is always the scariest thing to do, especially if you’re new to being an entrepreneur. The reason is because you’re not sure how it’ll turn out. Whether you will succeed or fail. All you have is just yourself and your mindset telling you, what if? And if things don’t work out, I have to do this and that etc.
These were some of the things that were going through my mind when I was starting my own business. Though a really small part of my mind was telling me, what if it does turn out well? What if you make this into a living? What if you become financially free?
While all these things were running through my mind. You as an entrepreneur will just have to take the leap of faith and go in with the punches. Whether you pass or fail, it doesn’t matter. You’ll at least gain some knowledge from it and that’s going to build the character in you.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What I believe that sets me and my team apart from other teams is that we embrace ourselves as human beings. There’s no pretending to be someone or fake it til you make it. Everything we do as a team is genuinely how we are. We bring in the best part of ourselves as young entrepreneurs. If you’re an asshole, you will be an asshole entrepreneur. If you’re a nice person, you will be a nice entrepreneur.
What I’m most excited about is that we get to be who we really are. If we get a client that acts like an anal Karen, we have the ability to drop that call instantly. We are never obligated to put up with customer service that we do not want to deal with. I believe that if we can get rid of all the toxicity in our daily lives, we would be happier to work together as a team.
To be where I am today in business requires; a lot of critical thinking, problem solving and mindset. I believe the most important one is your mindset. The ability to want more than others and the ability to see beyond others who cannot see further. By providing that vehicle to your mind, you can almost predict the future.
Was it easy? Of course, nothing is easy in this world when you want to achieve something beyond your own expectations. It takes brain power as well as physical effort to get to where you need to be. Every job and every business are saturated and competitive in this world. Even plants that are growing next to each other have to fight in order to grow their roots. Though if you really want it, I always believe that it’ll be easy once you figure it out.
You also have to overcome your challenges. If things are easy for you, you’re probably at your peak. It’s time to ascend to the next level by challenging yourselves in what you want to achieve in your career or in life. I overcome my challenges by giving myself a difficult task every time I achieve a goal.
There are many lessons you’ll learn on the way when starting out being an entrepreneur. You’ll learn that failure is part of the process. You’ll get hurt from it and it’s your job to bring yourself back to life. Starting new, you’ll also learn that you can’t drive a manual stick shift car to 5th gear right away. You start off really slow then once you get to where you need to be, you’ll be able to shift one gear to the next at your own pace. You will be given a bunch of random tasks along the way, whether it’s good luck or bad luck, you will have to overcome all of them.
The goal is to help my Hmong community and the rest of the world to understand that you don’t have to be raised in a wealthy family to be wealthy. Everyone is a self-starter at some point. Even the riches man won’t be able to become rich if his mind is thinking about something else. To show the world that even if you’re the odd one out in the family, you can still succeed by being able to surround yourself with the like-minded people. You are who you hang with, so if you’re going to be hanging around with a bunch of potheads, you’re going to be a pothead. If you hang with a bunch of time wasters, guess what? You will be a time waster. Spend your time wisely on who you want to hang with because that’ll determine your future. So don’t be that dumb kid and surrounding yourself with like-minded people or people who you would like to become if you want to have a better future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to old Sacramento and our downtown area. We would then go to the club, get bottle service, get drunk and party like there is no tomorrow. For all my friends out there, each and every single one of them is special to me. So if they ever come and visit me, we would live and party like there is no tomorrow.
