Meet Taylor Lambert | Casting Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Lambert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always pursue creative opportunities – I started acting in San Francisco in 2011 and found collaborations with other artists to be extremely rewarding. Over the past decade, I’ve worked in various fields – tech, film production, even cookie sales. I became involved with casting when working at a production company. That’s really when the inspiration lightbulb turned on for me. There’s no better feeling than finding great talent for producers or telling an actor that they are BOOKED. I started Aura Casting with all these ideas in mind – Creating a community of artists, collaborating with like minded creatives and bringing stories to life. All of my previous work experiences have proved useful when I started Aura Casting – Even the cookie selling job!
Aura Casting started at the height of the pandemic – It was 2020 and the industry needed to shift to online to accommodate lockdown restrictions. Our service provides 100% online casting anywhere in the US, so we have been able to cast virtually in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, Denver, Atlanta and Ohio. And we’re always ready for more!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Aura Casting was created as a simple and affordable way to include all walks of life in the audition process – the underrepresented, the gender fluid, the outsider, the marginalized. I am so proud that Aura has created a safe and welcoming space for artists all over the country. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the Aura community! I always want to give back to the actor, so Aura provides free casting breakdowns for all of our projects. Clients have been thrilled with Aura’s ability to streamline the casting process, find outstanding talent and bring quality actors to the big screen.
It has not always been easy – We did start mid pandemic, after all! Thanks to platforms like Zoom and Airtable, we were able to hit the ground running and collaborate with producers and actors. Aura utilizes technology for each casting call, which brings us fast results and is cost effective for everyone involved.
A big challenge for us was making Zoom callback sessions as effortless as an in person audition. Everyone was used to the traditional casting session, so the shift online felt unnatural at first. We soon realized that Aura could create its own path forward, and that actors and talent agencies were willing to work with us to create the best outcome possible. Aura is so fortunate to have inspirational collaborators through every step of the process.
I’m thrilled that the virtual approach has triumphed over the past few years, and Aura Casting is able to provide a convenient and valuable service that saves everyone the time of printing headshots, paying for parking, etc. We welcome all interested actors to join the free talent database on our website and take part in the Aura community.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are SO many great food spots in LA – We would definitely have to go on a taco truck tour. In addition to tacos, my must-stops for food include Howlin’ Rays, Osteria La Buca, Cassell’s, Birds Hollywood and Salazar. For dessert, it’s between triple berry cake at Sweet Lady Jane or donuts from Kettle Glazed. We’ve also got to check out the local theater/comedy scene, so I’ll be sure to see who is performing at Largo, Dynasty Typewriter, UCB or the Groundlings. For a quick nature break, I would take a hike in Malibu or La Cañada – There are so many great trails just outside the city. And of course, I’ll catch up with my actor friends. It’ll be a busy week!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Aura Casting would not be where it is today without the support of so many people in my network. I do have to shout out my appreciation for the production companies who consistently hire Aura, the talent agencies that provide spectacular actors at a moment’s notice, and the actors who bring their energy to every self tape, callback and booking. Every time I send out a new casting, the buzz from agents, actors and social media followers is palpable. Thank you for all of the Aura Casting support – Let’s keep this community thriving and growing!
