We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Beal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, how does your business help the community?
I’m in the business of spreading my incredible gift of music to millions of people. I’m essentially the Santa of the music industry. People love it!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s been a long an arduous journey getting to the position I’m in. I used to come home from school every day in middle school and record little songs on my macbook. My music was horrible at first and I endured years of ridicule before my friends and family finally realized I had any talent. I was always making music but it never seemed like something I could do proffessionally. It became an unescapable passion that had me recording incessently daily, into my college years. I’ve learned to collaborate as often as I can because new ideas and perspectives are incredibly important in a proffession like mine. I definitely credit so much of my personal growth as an artist to the other artists I’ve met along the way.If theres one thing I’d like everybody to know about me, it would be how much I put into every line I write.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I moved to Los Angeles, I gave up the pizza and pasta I grew to love in New York and fell in love with Japanese and Mexican food. I would without a doubt reccomend ‘El Cielito Lindo’ on Oliviera Street for their famous taquitos, and a trip to Little Tokyo for ramen and pork buns at Rakkan Ramen. Little Tokyo is super fun to visit in general but I’d end the night at a local spot like Zebulon or 4100 Bar. Great spots to drink and dance.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One person who comes to mind when thinking of someone who’s positive encouragement greatly impacted my work was Luke Keddy. He is an editor for the YouTube pioneer’s, SuperMega, and when he told me he liked my music on our last tour, I knew I had to keep creating.

I’d also love to give an honorable mention to my good friends, Matt Watson and Ryan Magee, who published their novel, “SuperMega Saves the Troops.”
