We had the good fortune of connecting with DEVÍ Deauville and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DEVÍ, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks is a two-way street. You’re gambling every time you say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to something. Life is like a game of blackjack at a cozy hotel in Vegas. If you keep hitting at the right table, the dealer “busts” more often & the more you win. If you pick the wrong hand or a bad hand at a table adjacent to the “winning one”, you lose everything you brought with you. But if you have a sufficient amount of good intuition, you know which table to sit at, and you know when to back out of a “bad hand”. In my broad social circle, I am known for having impeccable intuition. To my luck, it has served me quite well throughout my life, even in my childhood.
Every opportunity I have accepted throughout, my life has served me well. Even the “bad tables“ that I have sat at, I knew when to walk away. Every risk you take is an opportunity you should consider. And if you find that 50% of those opportunities are “dead ends and “or “bad tables, and “as I have said, previously, then you simply walk away. After all, not ever risk is meant to be ventured until the end. So whether I have taken up opportunities or have taken risks that were amazing or 50% bad, it has taught me a lot. I have always gained some thing from these experiences in multiple ways.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art ranges from formal and conservative to implied nude and more provocative. None of my work is raunchy or looks like it was a blurry selfie from the strip club. It simply eludes the raw nature of humanity with its’ minuscule flaws intertwined with the broadly superficial nature of the world. Though I am possibly the worst at posting on social media, I post whatever I want to , whenever I want to. So I may pair some of my pictures with the next post being some thing connected with a topic of philosophy or psychology. I feel as though my way of going about things is connected to the roots of the entire picture. I started with pageants at the young age of 11 years old while I was also starting my cosmetology, businesses in make up, hair, and nail artistry. As I entered my middle teen years, I started doing some brand representation for some jujitsu companies. I noticed I was catching the eye of multiple companies and photographers nationally. Of course, still being under 18 at that time, I was limited. But when I finally turned 18 years old and moved out of DC, I was able to really show the world what images or what persona or how many personalities I wanted to project off at different times. My motto is: ‘Living is an art form within itself’. Through trials and tribulations, through tears and stressful times, it’s all quite the opposite from being “a breeze“. But it is all beautiful in the end, and it will always be what you have wanted in the very end.
Nothing was ever easy for me as a teenager, but I always had a burning flow of motivation running under my skin like hot lava. I would say one of the strongest causes for my drive was my excessively controlled upbringing. I already knew what it was like to be restricted of being yourself. So I will be forever grateful for every day I wake up with freedom and independence laying in the palms of my hands. As humans, we will always go through drastic ups and downs every day or every week or every month for the rest of our lives. But guess what? We have the choice to make a difference in our life and we can also be grateful for the fact that we have that freedom. We will always be faced with challenges, but we can turn those challenges into great successes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Even though I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t party, and I am a vegetarian, I still know of quite a few great places to drag a couple friends to experience my environment. I would drag them to a couple restaurants like Boa Steakhouse, Via Alloro, Il Pastaio, Ysabel, Avra, Mastros, Spago, The Little Door, etc.
For more chill spots, I would bring them to Soho House, Havana Cigar lounge, Polo Lounge, The Peninsula Bar, and many more.

At the end of some daytime fun, we would probably all drive up to Zuma Beach or somewhere in Malibu to rest our eyes beyond the horizon.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To be honest, no friends or family come to mind when I think about the people around me who could have thrown me towards the positive things I have earned in life. If anything, I would like to thank all of my doctors for always watching out for my health and supporting my life in the most meaningful way. After all, I certainly wouldn’t have even started modeling from the get go if I simply never existed. If there is anything else I can think of, I would say that the oppressive culture I was engulfed by as a child certainly inspired me to “color outside of the lines“. I am 1000% thankful for all of the above.
