We had the good fortune of connecting with Allexia Barros and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allexia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is to give my community something different and empower women. I want to be able to help women’s basketball grow. My everyday goal is to inspire and motivate people on and off the court. With my trainings I can help someone build their game to the next level. Help them build the confidence they never knew they had and just have fun with the game of Basketball.
I love helping people and seeing the smile on their faces when they leave the gym

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The thing that I’m most proud of in my career is that I’ve never gave up, Yes im proud of everything that I’ve accomplished so far but I’m not done yet! I’m excited to see what’s coming next for me, I have a lot of ideas and goals that I want to achieve. I got to where I am today in my career from putting in the work and always stayin true to myself. No it is not easy, it’s still hard for me right now to even get a contract overseas. Nothing worth fighting for is easy. Over coming the challenges is just learning how to be patient, because there’s gonna be a lot of nos and disappointments but can’t let that stop you from accomplishing your dreams. The lessons that I’ve learned along the way is to always believe in yourself and don’t let anything stop you.
I want the world to know that I am here
I am here to help people in any way that I can and give back to the kids in my community and in other cities. I want to touch so many peoples lives , encourage others to go after their dreams.
I’m following my dreams and helping others follow theirs at the same time
And there’s no better feeling than this!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I honestly don’t go out much lol If I’m not in the gym working out , I’m coaching but if I had to do anything I’d go to Boston, Find a nice restaurant with good food, Walk around downtown, find a place with fruity drinks. Or even go to a basketball game

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shout out to my family, my friends, my agent and to the city of New Bedford. Everything that I’ve been through and continue to go through has never once stopped me. I just want to say thank you to everyone that has supported me and continue to do so.
I am just getting started! There’s so much more coming your way!
