Meet Roman Anthony | Actor | Writer | Cosmetologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Roman Anthony and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roman, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As an artist we are independent businesses and typically file taxes that way. It just made sense to take the step and create my own brand and business legally. For me it is the ability to have as much creative freedom as possible. I want to control how I’m perceived- my image, my art and what I choose to disclose personally on public and social platforms.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s been a long road to get where I am and I’m still on it. I started very young singing and dancing and around high school transitioned into acting. Growing up my mother and both my elder sisters were hair stylist so I naturally gravitated towards doing hair as well. As I started to pursue acting as a profession I decided becoming a licensed cosmetologist should be my day job profession. In doing so I am still able to be on set and around my first love even if I am not in the production. To my credit I have now been an actor and a hair stylist for two BET films. I’m not sure there is anyone else in the industry who can say they are both in a film and on the films beauty team. Next week I’ll be heading to Atlanta, GA to do hair for another film and I’m hoping to continue working more behind the camera and in front.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
You know lately I’ve been hosting a lot of my friends from Europe (Paris & London) and typically they already have a list of where they want to visit. The first place being the Hollywood sign. Actually, thanks to a friend from Paris I know a route to the Hollywood sign so close one can almost touch it. Then we hit Santa Monica Beach and the pier. Followed by WeHO for a bit of clubbing and cocktails. Shockingly one place I took a friend I did not expect they’d like was Dave & Busters. My friend spent nearly an hour trying to master the claw machine and playing the games. I didn’t realise that there aren’t so many amusement park or restaurant places like that where he’s from. I will say I usually create a tour guide spreadsheet catered to what I know that friend to be into. Now if they’re someone like me they’ll want to hit Perch for cocktails or the Mondrian, maybe Chateau Marmont or a karaoke bar in north Hollywood. I also enjoy shopping and restaurants so tend to hit DTLA or Beverly Hills.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
