Meet Kishara Buford | Artist, Designer, & CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kishara Buford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kishara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I was thinking of starting my own business, what I really wanted was the freedom that came with it. I love creating art and designing, but the thought of only creating what someone else wanted on someone else’s schedule did not feel like the art career path I wanted to walk down. So I wanted a way to continue my art and my passions without the restrictions that came with working at a firm, and that is to work for myself. Now, I can purse my art career and design what I want to see without restraint. It is a lot of responsibility, but the freedom that it comes with it worth it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what I am most proud of as an artist is the moment someone sees in my art what I see. When I am creating a piece, I am trying to distill a story, a feeling, a movie in my head down to a single frame; a single moment that encapsulates a statement. When I see people truly about to see the whole truth behind my art; that is when I am the most excited. But getting here was not easy. One really big lesson that I had to learn professionally in order to get to the point I am now is consistency. Not just in terms of creating my art and getting better at the media that I like, but also to submit my work anywhere and everywhere that I can. it is better to get your name out there somehow than to wait for some large break to one day occur. And submitting my work has been great not only for getting my name out there, but also gaining confidence in my work and ability. And it is that confidence, excitement, and passion that I want my brand and my art to convey.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting me in La then I would definitely have to take them to Little Tokyo. I am a huge fan of Japanese culture and cuisine, especially anime. Going to the anime shops there was always interesting and fun and trying the different food there was delicious. I especially can’t wait to try the shop’s ramen. But I try to make an effort to try new things from places I had never been when I do. And we can’t miss visiting the MOCA while we are there. We also have to take a trip to Santa Monica and Venice Beach to see the shops.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a lot of people who have helped and supported me through out my life with love, encouragement, assistance, even a place to lay me head. There are so many names, I doubt I could list them all. But if I were to Shoutout anyone, it would have to be the person who inspired me down this road and encouraged me to pursue my art career in spite of the odds. And that person is 730t’s very own Tylor Hurd. Though she is my aunt, we grew up so close we were like brother and sister. And to see how she has paved a way for herself as an artist has been inspirational, and she has never hesitated to turn around and lend me a hand or a word of encouragement. She got me to pursue my dreams when I had all but given up and for that she deserve all the credit. But a Shoutout will have to do for now.
