Meet Tom Loerch | Writer/Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tom Loerch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tom, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Taking breaks. I’m not a neuroscientist but I’m pretty sure the brain stops functioning well after a short period of time so I find it helpful to switch gears frequently – whether it be taking a break to read, exercise, or just kind of lay around – I usually come back a little fresher.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a writer first and foremost, a director secondly, and a 3D animator simply due to necessity and its accessibility. I’m self taught in every aspect and I’ve been working on a few projects for quite some time now. If it’s not too bold to say I like to think that my work is unique in itself and also has a somewhat unique blend of influences ranging from Charlie Kaufman to Cormac McCarthy.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The BROAD museum is great, both for its work and for its architecture. That would be the first. LACMA as well, for the same reasons (really looking forward to the LACMA addition by Peter Zumthor). Maybe we’d see a movie at the Grove if we’re feeling like we need to do something a touch cliché.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think if it weren’t for my family’s support I wouldn’t be able to continue doing this. They’ve helped me out quite a bit along the way both financially and otherwise.
