We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcy Campos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcy, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I believe the most important thing I have done as a parent is to work on my healing so that I in turn don’t pass down past traumas to my child. I have taken him as an example to help me learn to be more authentic and more myself. This in turn helps me be a better mother because he is able to see someone living authentically and standing in their truth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Comadreando podcast is a show about educating, creating community, and providing resources to parents of children with special needs. What I feel sets me apart from other Podcasts is that it is a unique space tailored to POC where they can feel comfortable sharing their journeys with each other and feel seen/heard. One of the things I am most proud of is the organic growth of the show. Our listeners (Comadres) really do promote the show and even people who don’t have people with special needs in their families recommend and share the show far and wide.

This has been a long time coming and I am so proud of the growth in the show. The improvement is noticeable, I am putting out a product that i am proud of and can stand behind. I feel that once I made up my mind I just went step by step to flesh out the plan and see it through. It wasn’t easy creating a work life balance since I am still working as a teacher, I have a 14 year old son who is on the spectrum with more specific needs, and still making time for mental health practices that keep me in balance. I was able to overcome the challenges by using the resources that I had in the form of people and looking for mentors who have done it before.

I’ve learned that I am powerful and can accomplish anything I set my mind to. If someone would have told me two years ago that I would have my own podcast and would have incorporated into an LLC and that I would be running it on my own I wouldn’t have believed that person. I want the world to know that representation matters and the stories of POC folks are important to support our children and make them feel seen.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In NYC there are so many spots I would like to take them too but some of my favorites are:

-the Metropolitan Museum of Art
-the MOMA
– I would probably take them to a Broadway Show (Moulin Rouge)
– A great italian restaurant in Little Italy in the Bronx
– A picnic in Central Park]
– the Vessel
– Harlem for food and Jazz
– Williamsburg in Brooklyn

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to provide credit where credit is due, I have an enormous village of powerful women who support me in my endeavors and help encourage me to pursue my passions. I’d like to tip my hat to these powerhouses in no particular order:
