We had the good fortune of connecting with Barkhaus Petsitters and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barkhaus, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
We’re a small team of three and each one of us has a different response to this question, but we strongly share the same vibe. Zenia: An important factor behind Barkhaus Petsitters’ success is the love we offer our furry clients. Our clients are not just clients. They are truly a part of our extended family. We pride ourselves on the communication we have between us and every owner. Helen: I feel that our passion for what we do is clear to our clients. It shows in a strong and genuine way. There is no “faking it”. We all are extremely passionate about the services we provide and the time we spend with their fur babies. We love what we do. Megan: Our clients are always treated as family. We treat the fur baby clients as if they were our own and that totally sets us apart from everyone else.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What truly sets Barkhaus Petsitters apart from the others is our small team. We are a family business and all of our clients are treated like family. All of our fur baby clients are treated as if they were our own. At the beginning of 2020, our goal was to open a doggie daycare and resort for pets. When Covid-19 hit, we decided, as a team, to put that dream on hold and stay mobile. When Barkhaus Petsitters launched, we started our business the old fashioned way. We went door to door leaving flyers around the community. It wasn’t easy trying to market ourselves this way, but we didn’t have a lot of money to invest in marketing and advertising. We got a lot of exercise though! When we got our very first client, we were ecstatic. Once we received our first good review, it just grew from there. Our journey has been very exciting and we are a very close team. Between the three of us, we have great communication and a lot of patience. This helps us overcome any challenges we come across. In our years of being in business, we’ve learned a lot of things along the way. Some of those things include staying flexible, being patient, empathetic to our clients because we are also fur baby mamas, and constantly holding each other to a high standard of service. Our clients respect our great reputation and we are happy to be of service to them. Barkhaus Petsitters wants the world to know that we will always remain passionate in what we do. Through these difficult times all over the world, our number one priority is and always has been… the pets.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s a little different because of Covid and a lot of establishments adjusting to regulations, but if we had a friend coming out to visit for a week, our sample itinerary would look like this: A lot of our closest friends ride motorcycles. We would jump on our bikes and go for a little wind therapy along PCH, enjoying the ocean view and the beautiful blue skies. Everything is awesome through Santa Monica and Malibu. We would stop in Ventura, at Barrelhouse 101, for a bite to eat and a quick “butt break”. They have great food and drinks. Their outdoor dining setup is big and spacious. We’d spend the night there and get back on our bikes in the morning and head towards Hollywood. EVERYTHING is cool in Hollywood! You can’t go wrong with anything there. A lot of things are closed, but people watching down Hollywood Blvd is a blast. A quick hop, skip, and a jump over to West Hollywood brings us to Fiesta Cantina and great places to stay for the night. The next morning, we head back out, and end up in Venice Beach. There’s the Sidewalk Cafe, a lot of people watching, great food, music, and sometimes can catch the drum circles on the beach. AirBnb’s are really cool in Venice. Some overlook the boardwalk so we stay and spend the next couple of days renting roller-skates, taking in the sun, and boogie boarding.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Barkhaus Petsitters wouldn’t be possible without our clients, so our biggest shoutout goes out to each and every one of them. We’re also appreciative to our friends and family for their unconditional support.
