We had the good fortune of connecting with Dan Glashausser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After spending a decade with my brother Tom creating and refining Glashaus Studio and working with a diverse set of artists in our private space, we realized that we had created something really special. We tailored this studio to be a perfect blend of comfort, inspiration, and functionality, with top-of-the-line gear but also the kind of warmth and natural light that you don’t always get in recording studios.

We looked around and noticed the need for a space that provided more than just equipment, but an atmosphere that facilitated creativity and collaboration, too. It’s no secret that a well-designed space can have a significant impact on the creative process, and we felt that ours had the potential to do just that.

Over the years, we’ve been fortunate enough to host an array of incredible talents at Glashaus Studio. From legends like Earth Wind and Fire, to phenomenal artists like Julia Michaels, and a number of the top producers and writers in the business, our studio has been a creative hub for some truly extraordinary music. This richness of talent and the creative energy that they brought to our space sparked an idea. We realized that we wanted our studio to be more than just our own private workspace, but a creative sanctuary for anyone with a passion for music.

So, in September 2022, we started this exciting new chapter. We opened up Glashaus Studio, not only to continue our own work, but to share this carefully crafted space with the wider music community. The experience since then has been gratifying and inspiring, as we’ve watched this space, built with our own hands and full of our own memories, become a place of creation and inspiration for so many other artists.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Glashaus Studio, we like to think of ourselves as more than just a recording studio. Sure, we’ve got the gear and the space, but what sets us apart is our philosophy. We’ve always been about creating an environment that inspires creativity and fosters collaboration. Our studio is a reflection of that belief. It’s not just a workspace; it’s a home away from home for artists and creatives.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the culture we’ve cultivated here. We’ve worked hard to create a space that welcomes everyone who walks through the door, whether they’re a seasoned professional or just starting their musical journey. Seeing the look of inspiration on an artist’s face when they walk in, or hearing the music they create in our space, is one of the most rewarding aspects of what we do.

Getting to where we are today hasn’t always been a smooth ride. The music industry is a tough one, and running a business within it comes with its fair share of challenges. We had to learn to balance our creative passions with the realities of running a business. But we’ve learned to turn those challenges into growth opportunities. We’ve learned the importance of flexibility and adaptability, and we’ve come to appreciate the value of building strong relationships within the industry.

As for our story, it’s one of passion and perseverance. Our journey with Glashaus Studio started from a simple desire to create music in an environment that inspired us. We never set out to make a statement or to revolutionize the industry. But along the way, we realized that we could offer something unique to the music community. And that’s what we want the world to know about us: we’re here for the music, and we’re here for the artists.

As we look towards the future, we’re incredibly excited about continuing to perfect our space at Glashaus Studio. We’re focused on providing an environment where artists can create the most authentic music without distractions. Our goal is to eliminate any obstacles that might stifle creativity, to allow artists to solely concentrate on their art.

We’re not just providing a service or renting out a studio; we’re cultivating a creative sanctuary, a home for artists. And we eagerly anticipate the incredible music that will be born from these synergistic collaborations. After all, at Glashaus Studio, it’s all about empowering the artist, nurturing the creative process, and cherishing the wonderful music that it brings to life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were in town, I’d show them the three essentials that LA excels at: perfect weather, creamy delicious pasta, and unapologetically greasy smash burgers.

We’d start the week right with an Italian feast at Bestia – every dish is a masterpiece. Post-dinner, we’d head to ER Bar for some relaxed drinks. The following night, we’d dine at Cento Pasta Bar. With their ever-evolving menu, you’re always in for a tasty surprise. We’d also make a point to visit Angelini Osteria and Son of a Gun for their renowned uni pastas. Next up would be Osteria Mozza for more pastas including the fennel sausage Orecchiette.

One evening, we’d head to the rooftop of Glashaus Studio, grilling steaks and enjoying the panoramic city views. From there, we’d move to Bar Lis with even better views and an atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re in the South of France.

No visit to LA would be complete without a smash burger tour. Burger She Wrote and Heavy-Handed are on the top of the list but I would push for a different one everyday for lunch if they’re up to it.

If we manage to tick off all the food spots on the list and there’s time left, we might hit the beach in Malibu. But honestly, the real magic of LA is in the food, the weather, and the city’s laid back energy – and that’s exactly what I’d want my friend to experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely, I’ve been fortunate enough to work with and learn from some incredible individuals throughout my journey. But if there’s one person I have to shout out, it’s my brother and business partner, Tom. He’s not just my sibling; he’s my confidant, my sounding board, and my partner in crime in every sense of the word.

Our shared passion for music, our complementary skills, and our shared history have been fundamental in shaping Glashaus Studio. We’ve spent countless hours refining our craft, learning from one another, and pushing each other to do better. Without Tom, there would be no Glashaus, and I would not be where I am today.

In terms of mentorship and inspiration, I’d also like to recognize our diverse community of artists and collaborators who’ve been part of our journey. From seasoned industry veterans to emerging talents, we’ve been fortunate to work with a wide array of artists, and each one of them has left an imprint on us and the studio.
