Meet Laura Baggett | Actress, Writer, Yogi

We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Baggett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always thrived in a creative environment. As a child I always loved art and music classes. I did go to Manhattan College which was a business school and I am grateful for that because my parents insisted that I get an academic career, but I majored in Communications with a concentration in Film, and minored in Religion so that gave me so a much broader view of the world. And then I would take the subway down town to Broadway Dance Center! I have just never been a 9-5 sort of person. I need variety.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
If there was anything I could share it is that it is not too late to start again. I quit acting and for years was teaching yoga full time. It was nice to get away from the industry and really dive into my own practice and share yoga with others. But the acting bug came back and I reached out to my manager thinking “they won’t take me back, I’m too old..blah blah blah”. But they took me back and I actually started booking tons of commercials. I think because I had a fresh perspective and was really detached from the outcome. I think it is a really exciting time, we can create the life we want. It doesn’t have to be either/or. So much is remote these days. So I think if you are being called into a new direction, go for it! The old thing you have been doing forever will always be there. I don’t believe in a rise and grind life, breaks are good, slowing down is good, re-routing is awesome!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place I would take someone visiting LA would be Geoffrey’s in Malibu. It’s a classic. It has the best view for brunch or early dinner. I would also take them to see something at the Mark Taper Theatre down town. They always get amazing talent with a diverse season. Dinner would also have to be downtown at Bottega Louie..delicious Italian Food and well the pastry shop is just gorgeous. Have to do a day in Topanga, maybe start the day with a hike, have lunch outside under the trees at Living Food Cafe. A spa day in Korea Town with drinks and snacks after at The Line Hotel, hopefully they are doing music that evening! I ride my bike a lot so maybe a Sunday on the East side with a bike ride up the LA river and end at the Farmers Market in Atwater Village.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so grateful for the community I have. I think continuing to learn and grow is key. When all auditions went to self taped, and continue to be so, I am super grateful for WE Audition, it has really helped me. You can basically sign on and find a reader for your self tape, or you can be a reader. It is a really brilliant concept and I just love how much support I get from all the talented readers. It’s MUCH better than asking my neighbor or friend to help out. I also took a class at the Actors Gang Theatre earlier this year and it was in person and just so playful and fun, really got me out of my head and into my body. Yoga is a huge part of my life, if I want something athletic and in person I love MODO yoga they have amazing instructors and the heated yoga feels so good. RAMA yoga institute is amazing for Kundalini which I try to do daily. It moves so much energy! And lastly when I want to let loose, Ecstatic Dance LA has amazing beach dance parties and wow they get the best DJ’s and to be dancing on the beach watching the dolphins and celebrating life, it always leaves me well..ecstatic! ha.
