We had the good fortune of connecting with Quentin Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quentin, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has played a large role in my professional life to this point. From the age of 15 to 20, I worked on various projects and businesses while saving every penny I could living at home. Simultaneously, I was given the opportunity to model for my favorite golf apparel company, iliac Golf. In 2020, the owner of iliac Golf shared his desire to sell his company.

While I didn’t have enough capital to fund the entirety of the purchase myself, I consulted my finance teacher at San Diego State helped me understand corporate capitalization – raising money through stock, debt, and how to give my venture the best shot at success. I put in 99% of my savings into the company, and raised the additional funding necessary through five other investors at a 50/50 debt to equity ratio.

I love the concept of having nobody to blame except myself and saw the investment in iliac as a bet on myself. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to run the company and hope to continue to have the opportunity to acquire businesses and grow them to their full potential in the future.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Iliac has been found in the bags and on the shoulders of more than 80 elite pga tour players over the last 2 decades. The player list includes Master’s Champions Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Scott, as well as world #1’s David Duval and Rory Mcllroy… along with countless celebrities & professional athletes such as Tony Hawk, Payton Manning, & actors Clint Eastwood and Andy Garcia.

What makes iliac different from other golf brands is that the average golf company creates a batch of product overseas, ships it to the United States, and creates an advertising campaign attempting to convince their customers to purchase their products. With this sort of model, the company needs the customer more than the customer needs the product itself.

Iliac is the reverse of that. Our process starts with handcrafting individual custom pieces unique to each customer – with no product sitting on the shelves. We allow the customer to handpick their favorite pieces, and if they don’t see exactly what they’re looking for – we talk to each customer directly and bring their dream pieces to life.

We design, source, cut, and sew in America, ensuring the highest quality while bringing jobs back to the United States.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them to iliac headquarters – I can’t imagine a more enjoyable place.

Just kidding. I’d likely take them to a Padres or Dodgers game, show them around Laguna Beach where I grew up, stop by a few of my favorite sushi restaurants, and lastly show them the nightlife in Pacific Beach in the evening.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m extremely grateful to my parents who instilled values in me to work hard and treat people with respect. In addition to my family, I’m thankful to my friends who have encouraged me through the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. I believe that building value in business has a large part to do with who you surround yourself with. I feel very lucky with who I have around me on a regular basis.
