We had the good fortune of connecting with John Mercado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process was basically I was tired of working for others. I have been working since I was fourteen years old. I’ve had many jobs and one thing they all have in common is I made someone else a lot of money. I knew I would have to work harder than I have in my life but freedom to do what you want is going to cost you. None of the successful business people in the world have taken short cuts. It’s a truth most learn the hard way.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is mainly writing screenplays and teleplays. I think what sets my work apart is I try and tell the truth of the subject. When I create something I want it to resonate with the audience. I never make something to appeal to the masses. It’s selected for the audience it’s meant for. It’s something that is definitely not easy. To be a successful writer it takes a lot of practice and dedication.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would have to say take them to Disneyland first of all. Then Universal Studios of course. I would take them to Tacos Mi Ranchito, Pinks Hotdogs, and of course, In n Out. The beauty of California is the desert, snow, forest, beach is all within two hours. Definitely head to Santa Barbara or Temecula and do some beer tasting. Take them to LA Kings game or Dodger game. There’s also lots of beautiful spots to hike.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout to Berenice Molina Valle from The Streets to the Set. She is an inspiration not only to me but to many others. Her program helps so many under serviced members of our community. I also would like to thank my wife and parents. Their support is instrumental when things get challenging. Also my team from 4ways Entertainment, Alex Ferrufino and David Mansanalez. These two have been with me through the good and the bad on this ride.
