We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Archer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
One of the most important factors in my success journey has been my faith. Trusting in God and understanding that what is for me will be for me and my job is just to go into this thing we call life and give my BEST effort.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I’m an actor. I moved to Los Angeles in 2009 after having a co-star role on a show In Austin Texas called Friday Nigh Lights. I had a few commercials before moving to La, but overall hadn’t had any connections with any one in the business before docking on the Westcoast. I would say the obstacles I overcame made me a stronger individual my first 3 months living in La. You see I went from sleeping in a nice 2 bedroom apartment with ACti sleeping on a friends living room floor. I went from using my degree as a teacher making 40k annually to making 14,000 annual in a city where the rent is wayyy higher, I went from having a saving account to rummaging through my seats to find change just to be able to eat food for the day and have gas to make it to work. The lessons that I learned and I always stated out loud when it got tight was , “Paul God will never put more on you than you can bear. I truly believed that. I went from all that ti 14 years later having speaking roles on two of the top two shows on tv, “Abbott Elementary” and “The AfterParty”. I want people to hear my story and know that no matter what ya going through continue to beat on your craft, trust God and keep the faith.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely say we gotta hit the beach. I would take them Santa Monica to hang out on the pier. All the eating spots, Mario’s Peruvian restaurant on Melrose, Rosalind’s Ethiopian Restaurant on Fairfax and def go down to Hollywood to see the walk of fame.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person(s) that deserve the credit are def my mom and dad. They have believed in me since my moved to Los Angeles back in 2009. They said just pray and put God first in everything you do when I drove out my driveway heading to the west coast. So I dedicate that credit to them and my Lord Saviour Jesus Christ of Course.
