Hi TruVinChi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
What made me start my business because I felt like brands in the modern area aren’t creative like how they used to be. Everyone is copying off one another with little to no difference. I grew up into fashion & watched how brands slowly started became less creative with the things they make, to the point I wanted to show how brands can still exist & grab attention. I wanted to adapt to modern day fashion & still add a twist to what I do at the same time to keep in style & still differentiate myself. Hence the name distinct. Even down to my slogan “we’re nothing like you, but you’re something like us” the goal is to bring back creativity & explosiveness to modern day fashion again

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Distinct By Tru is a clothing brand which fore-takes the modern adaptation of urban street wear. With the logo created by Tru himself, his imaginary friend which is a direct inspiration of old school retro cartoons/animations.
Inspirations such as Pac-Man. Astro boy, Sonic, Mario, Mickey Mouse, Mega man, with of dash of 80s/90s fashion.
This name of this character is Felix, which stands for happy and fortunate in Latin. Expressing the exact mood Tru was in when he brought his imaginary friend to life.

The purpose of this brand is to create an ‘Unfamiliar Nostalgic’ look. Which in our means giving a look that people never seen. Yet reminding them of various old school characters that once had this similar design.
We stand to be as different from everyone else, creating odd pieces to catch the eye of everyone around, with the purpose to stand out…. To be DISTINCT.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the city, 42nd street by the red steps that gives the summary of NYC bunch of different talent. Dancers, musicians , food stands , talents shows. Much entertainment

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

These 2 are amazing artists, they can make beats record & write. They taught me how to become versatile in the music I create. The constructive Criticism they give to me helped me craft myself to becoming the artist I am today. Court St records all my music & he’s honest with his opinions, same with Kay. They will break you down for the better so when you get back & fix your mistakes it’s always a satisfying result. 2 great teachers when it comes to music & they are way ahead of their time in my opinion. These 2 need more recognition, they deserve it all
