We had the good fortune of connecting with Garrett Chan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garrett, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Honestly, in my field, I recognize that it’s not just deciding to work for myself. Real estate is a service based professional industry in which my expertise, knowledge, network and contacts are used to help clients achieve their goals smoothly and ensure they are informed. I actually think I work for myself, to help my clients with major life decisions.

What should our readers know about your business?
I work to help my clients identify their goals and navigate a difficult transaction or project by truly listening and learning who they are. My clients’ happiness is truly important to me, and I find that as my guiding principle in my job. I love getting to know who they are!

No job is easy, but real estate and interior design are jobs in which I have to get to know the client more to be able to help them achieve their goals. I pride myself in taking a true interest in that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In my real estate career especially, I think of myself as an ambassador to the areas I cover. I’m constantly learning about what my clients love and enjoy and make suggestions whether it’s great trails to hike, beaches to go to, events on the horizon, local small businesses to support, and – my favorite – great places to eat!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love my amazing family who have supported me and cheered me on all the way. Also I love my chosen family and amazing group of friends who have encouraged me to be myself and shine!
