We had the good fortune of connecting with Qloud and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Qloud, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
My name is Qloud, and I’m a producer, singer, and songwriter from Chile. Music has been a part of my life since I was a kid, but it was only about four years ago that I decided to turn it into a serious career choice.

I was born and raised in Viña del Mar, a beautiful beach town in Chile. While I appreciated the natural beauty, I always felt the pull of big city life, so I moved to Santiago. Later, I followed my dreams to Los Angeles to pursue my music career. However, no matter where I go, nothing compares to the peace I find surrounded by nature. Talking walks through the forest or going to beach and listening to the sounds makes me feel connected and grounded. It inspires my sounds and lyrics and helps me take a step back in times of stress.

My background is a mix of Chilean and Colombian customs, because my father is Chilean and mom Colombian. Growing up, I felt a bit different since immigration wasn’t common in Chile back then. Over time, I’ve learned to embrace those differences, turning them into my strengths. My parents were always supportive of my artistic interests, which allowed me to explore and discover my passion for music.

My dad’s excellent taste in music influenced my own style, and I’m forever grateful to him for introducing me to artists like Björk, who inspire and influence my work. Playing the guitar, thanks to his guidance, has become an essential part of my musical expression.

As a Chilean, Spanish is my native language, and my accent leans towards Chilean with a sprinkle of Colombian expressions. Moving to Los Angeles gave me the chance to connect with Latinos from diverse backgrounds. It’s really fun. I’ve also had to opportunity to meet people from all over the world and I think that is one of L.A’s biggest charms, creating diversity in culture, food and people.

Though LA’s vastness can be challenging, I’ve learned to embrace the diverse culture and connect with people from all over the world. Despite occasional homesickness and loneliness, I remain resilient and adaptable, shaping my music and character with each experience.

I set high expectations for myself, determined to prove that I can achieve my goals. I pour my heart into my music and projects, confident that hard work and persistence will pay off.

I’m truly grateful for the love and support of my parents and the valuable experiences that have shaped me. My journey as a musician has only just begun, and I’m eager to share my music with the world, hoping to inspire and connect with others through the universal language of music.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started the Qloud project In June 2019 wanting to explore unique sounds as a music producer, blending electronic and latin influences within the alt-pop genre. My first EP, titled “El Mundo Indigo” (Indigo World), was released in December 2020, under the all-women Chilean label T3MPLUM. This six-track EP featured a collaboration with trap artist Flowyn.

I moved to Los Angles in 2021 to complete an advanced music production program at Icon Collective in Burbank. This led me to collaborate with local artists and write an entire 12 track album which I’m very excited to release since it will be my first LP.

My latest release, “endless gaze,” came out on May 12th. This House-infused track stands out for its danceable rhythm and powerful basslines. The lyrics tell the story of an intense love at first sight through an infectious melody. The track carries an atmosphere of synthesizers and ethereal vocals, reflecting the influences of Los Angeles.

The accompanying music video for “endless gaze” stars Chilean actors Katty Kowaleckzo (known for “Los 80”) and Francisco Dañobeitía (featured in “La ley de Baltazar”). Under the direction of Iñaki Velasquez, the video immerses viewers in a fantasy world where a young woman reunites with her lost love. “endless gaze” is a fusion of different styles and cultures, creating an explosion of energy that will surely leave you wanting to dance!

As a woman producer it’s been hard to break into the industry. It’s no secret that it’s still a male dominated field running on stereotypes a lot of the time. The up-side is that I’ve met many amazing and talented women and allies with similar vision and values and the bond with these people is always very special.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite spots is Little Tokyo. I like buying things at the supermarket or getting Taiyaki at Somi Somi. There’s a lot of shops too with really cool stuff and a bookstore, even if you don’t read manga it’s always fun to look around. I live in Silverlake and one of my Saturday rituals is getting a smoothie at honey hi and then taking it to the Silverlake Flea in the morning, then later in the afternoon taking a walk around the reservoir and getting Thai dinner at the Silverlake House with sticky rice mango for dessert. And of course, Venice is one of the coolest places in L.A in my opinion, I can spend the entire day at the beach and walking around the board.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Icon Collective and my mentors for teaching me and helping my music grow. And I want to thank all my latino friends in L.A who feel like family and remind me of home.
