We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Knutson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsey, what do you attribute your success to?
My willingness to keep going. Building a successful business takes confidence, persistence, and execution. There’s a lot of distraction a long the way. And I’ve learned the more I’m clear on where I want to go and what actions will get me there, the more success I’ve realized. There’s endless ways to do things, success comes when you are confident in your own ability to lead the way. And when you are unsure of how to do that, seek out help that can ensure you are taking the right, strategic, steps to get you to where you want to go.

It also just takes time, putting the reps in. I learned from every “no.” And I grew from every “yes.” Those are both necessary to shape the experience for you.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart: I have a Bachelor’s in Entrepreneurship, built my own 6 figure salon, and now I use a combination of education and personal experience to help entrepreneurs. I’m a serial connector and believe in empowering my clients to be confident leaders. And I have a real knack for helping people get shit done.

What I’m most proud of: When my clients win, I win. I’ve helped clients open brick and mortar locations, hire employees, expand locations, launch new things, and quit their day jobs. I’m proud of each and every one of them.

What I’m excited about: Launching my new mastermind!

How did I get to where I am: Commit to showing up, even when it felt like no one was paying attention. Coming at it from a place of helping people. And networking any opportunity I could get. It definitely was not easy, on the months I wanted to quit, I would ask myself if I would regret it if I gave up and the answer was almost always yes.

What lessons did I learn:
– Never give up
– Focus on mastering a few things before you add more
– You don’t need to worry about scaling when you don’t have demand
– It takes time to build authority in your field
– People don’t buy themselves IN to something, they buy themselves OUT of pain
– The solutions usually lie within you

What do I want people to know: I made a lot of mistakes along the way to get where I am at (and I still have a long way to go). I share them openly on my podcast: The Get Shit Done Podcast and with my communities: Empower PNW and CEO Society. I believe there’s magic in bringing people together. And I also believe some times the thing you need to do is just take messy action. Even if someone has paid me $0 but got value out of something I have shared, then I have lived out my purpose.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Kirkland, WA but if my best friend was visiting, here’s where I would take them to my happy place, Cle Elum, WA. I love the mountains and water plus the small town feel. We would go on a hike, swim in the lake, lay on the doc, and grab a beer and dinner at The Brick. I love to be outside in the mountains and trees with no cell service.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my fiancé, Mat. When we met I was in the Entrepreneurship program at our college. I competed in the business plan competition while working part time jobs and went on to work for a start up. From day one, he’s always known about my entrepreneurial spirit. And never once has he dimmed my light. He’s been supportive through all of the iterations of businesses I have had while compassionately providing feedback along the way. I call him my blind spot detector because he has this knack for seeing this I often don’t. My favorite thing about him is that he never once has told me what to do with my business. And I truly appreciate his unwavering support in all that I do. On the days I want to curl up in a ball or the days I want to pop champagne and celebrate, there is no one else I would rather be with.
