Meet Lisa Ly | Founder & CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Ly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, what matters most to you?
There are many principles that I hold close to my heart, both in my approach to business and life in general. If I had to say which one matters most to me, it would have to be integrity. In my opinion, integrity is everything. It’s important to me because it completely demonstrates a person’s character – their perspectives on the world and the morals they carry. I try to have integrity no matter what I’m doing, and I always expect the same of others.

What should our readers know about your business?
My path to where I am today started with a simple goal: to make my mother proud. As a second-generation immigrant from Cambodia, this was really important for me – I wanted to break the mold, since most women in my culture are expected to be wives or caretakers. With those expectations looming, I wanted to show my mother that she had raised a strong, independent, and ambitious daughter, and someone who could achieve anything she set her mind to. Due to my care-free approach to life, we didn’t always get along when I was younger – my perspectives didn’t fit with the usual norms for Cambodian women. I sometimes wish I’d been more obedient, but I don’t have any regrets about following my spirit’s direction.
Travel is a big part of who I am and what inspires me. I love to immerse myself in different cultures, meet new people and experience everything the world has to offer. Viewing life through a different lens is definitely a key driver for my business.
I visited Secret Beach in San Pedro with a girlfriend once, indulging in the cuisine, basking in the sun and taking in the world around us. That’s where the idea for the business started – I needed to pursue my own swimsuit line. I knew then it would be a brand that represents my playful nature and leaves women feeling unapologetically confident. And that was the moment Bronzed Babe Swim was born!
What sets Bronzed Babe Swim apart from the others? As a consumer of swimwear, as a mother of two, my body has definitely changed. I wanted to make swimwear that was super fashionable but still felt comfortable and hold us up in all needed areas. I also wanted to make the swimsuits so it does not cut into our body to provide support. I’ve had that issue with so many brands. It may look suitable for photos, but I would have to take it off immediately; I couldn’t just wear it for the entire time at the beach/pool. I wanted a good, fitting, and fashionable swimsuit that feels good and still turn heads!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a total foodie and I surround myself with Bronzed Babe beauties who respect that game! Therefore, I make sure to show up to all of my favorite restaurants such as Mr. T’s in Hollywood, Ceccioni’s in WeHo, Beauty & Essex in Hollywood, The Little Door and Toca Madera in Mid City. All of these restaurants are trendy and posh with unique cuisines that are exquisite. The vibe, the ambiance… to die for!
On the activities front, I am a health and wellness girlie! Los Angeles/Hollywood is THE place to be! I would definitely take them to Santa Monica pier and Promenade, Venice boardwalk, Hollywood stars walk, Malibu pier and the Getty and LACMA museum. All of these locations are great for people watching and sightseeing. There, you’ll find lots of great street entertainment and food options.
Last but not least, all the Bronzed Babe beauties must experience the beaches. California possesses some of the most beautiful beaches such as El Matador State, Manhattan, Paradise Cove, and Zuma.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This area is very delicate for me as I have a very tight, close-knit group of family and friends. There’s a total of eight people in this exceptional group. I truly feel that part of my success is owed to them and I am forever indebted to them. They have been instrumental in all of my endeavors. They have encouraged, cheered me on, kept me emotionally and mentally intact, believed in me and most importantly, loved me unconditionally. I couldn’t ask for a better set of family and friends, I am beyond grateful.
Last but not least, my IG followers. I receive so many positive and encouraging messages from them and it always makes me tear up. I am humbled each and every time I receive a message.
