We had the good fortune of connecting with Jakita Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jakita, what matters most to you?
As the Zeta Amicae President I’m honored to speak on behalf of the organization. The Zeta Amicae of Los Angeles stands on the same principles as our Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. friends which are Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love, and Finer Womanhood. It is extremely important for our auxiliary to make an impact by serving the community.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

We are a very active auxiliary and we are proud of all of our signature community involvements and we are always looking for more ways to be a blessing to the community. Here you will find a list of those involvements:

· Provide scholarships to high school seniors
· Feed the homeless through the Healing and Hope Ministry
· Adopt a school to donate school supplies
· Partnered with the Crenshaw YMCA for their Cozy Coats Drive to supply the community with jackets and gloves
· Adopt a family during Thanksgiving to provide them with a gift card to purchase groceries
· Adopt a family during Christmas to provide them with gifts
· Partnered with Mama Hill’s Help Foundation to support their community efforts to provide Easter Baskets and Backpacks to
the South LA community.
· Contribute blankets & socks to the Gale C. Ballard Spread the Warmth Blanket drive
· Participate yearly in Wreaths Across America

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s only right we tell you how to experience our city the Zeta Amicae way. There are plenty of restaurants to enjoy but a must stop is the Cheesecake Factory at the Grove and The Lobster in Santa Monica. Between visiting the Santa Monica Pier and a nearby mall you have only begun to see our city. If you’re not too shy you can join us, side by side, somewhere in the heart of Los Angeles doing what we love to do; serving our community.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Zeta Amicae of Los Angeles would not be in existence without the efforts made by Friend Dr. Lullelia Walker Harrison 12th National President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated & Amica Adelade Ford 1st National Amicae President. Since 1940, Zeta chapters realized the importance and the valuable contributions of women who chose a different educational path than obtaining a 4-year degree. In 1948 these two phenomenal women, Walker and Ford, pioneered the first Amicae Auxiliary.

Zeta ”Amicae” means (Friends of Zeta) and provides an opportunity for professional women to be affiliated with Zeta and assist the sorority with providing positive, proactive, far-reaching community service, both nationally and internationally.

Established May 17, 1958, Zeta Amicae of Los Angeles is proudly celebrating our 65th anniversary. Our auxiliary is comprised of women ranging from ages 19 – 90. We salute the ladies of our sponsoring chapter, the Astounding Alpha Psi Zeta Chapter. These ladies champion our efforts and support our auxiliary in all that we do.

We have built our auxiliary on the same principles as our friends. We champion spreading love through sisterhood and especially our community and salute all the past Amicae for their valiant efforts.
