Meet Yesy Hernandez | Mechanical HVAC Engineer and Founder of a HVAC Mechanical Company

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yesy Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yesy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I should credit my mom and my mentor. Some context: I grew up in Burbank, and my mother and I were very close. She’s the one who inspired me to get my degree and then my MBA—and I wouldn’t have become a stationary air conditioning and heating mechanical engineer without her. Then, my mentor was like a father figure to me, and his work ethic helped me learn the ropes of the trade. I initially became Vice President of the company I’d worked at for over 15 years, and I later used that knowledge to become the founder and partner of Climatisation HVAC.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a woman in a male-dominated industry. This is something I’m proud of, but when I first started out, it made certain aspects of running Climatisation HVAC challenging. Some people second-guessed me early on in my career, and that didn’t feel great—but I knew I had to stay confident, believe in my skills and experience, and push through. And now I feel I’ve genuinely proven myself. I want the world to know that overcoming tough experiences can make a person stronger, and that today I own and operate a thriving HVAC business with loyal clients and a supportive, team-based culture.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a major foodie, and Moonshadows Malibu is one of my favorite places to grab a bite with a view. (The cocktails are amazing too.) The tiki-themed patio overlooks the water and is amazing for locals and visitors. Speaking of Malibu, Nobu Malibu is another one of my favorite restaurants. Like Moonshadows, it’s right on the Pacific Coast Highway, and the modern space is fun and calming. Plus the food and people-watching are second-to-none. But Nobu isn’t the only Japanese restaurant I love—Katsuya Hollywood is another local favorite. It’s pretty much my go-to for sushi and cocktails. Costa Rica; it’s one of my dream destinations. I would go surfing, rafting, ziplining, and take part in other adventurous activities. My plan also includes dining at renowned restaurants to drool over the authentic local delicacies. Hanging out at the top tourist attractions, like Conchal Beach, Gulf of Papagayo, Manuel Antonio, Tamarindo Beach, and Arenal Volcano, are some of the ones I have in my travel bucket.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to two important people in my life: my mom and my mentor “Alfred”. Growing up in Burbank, I’ve always been really close with my mom. She’s the one who encouraged me to get my degree, and I wouldn’t have become a stationary air conditioning and heating mechanical engineer and MBA without her support. She made me feel like my options were limitless, so long as I put in hard work. And then there’s my mentor, who I see as a father figure. My mentor owns a very successful HVAC company, and his leadership and work ethic continue to inspire me.
