We had the good fortune of connecting with Christy Kendall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

One of the most rewarding things about getting to know so many entrepreneurs and creatives is seeing first-hand how many of them are focused on so much more than just financial results. So many of the folks we connect with are focused on having a positive social impact on their community or the world at large. Can you talk to us about how you are helping the community?
I think we are a very visual society and as such the type of images we put out into the world effect our community. I personally value family and connection above all else, I think it has the power to save people. I visually put into the world the connection and happiness family brings and I like to think that creates a positive impact in the world. On a physical level we are a zero waste business, we use reusable batteries, try to purchase our gear as sustainably as possible and are totally paperless.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I actually started out shooting weddings for a large studio and making pennies for 13-14 hour days. It really conditioned me and made me certain I wanted to shoot weddings because despite how grueling it was I was totally in love with it. It wasn’t until I’d shot my first wedding on my own I realized I wanted to shoot families because I enjoyed getting to know the whole family of the bride so much, I wanted to continue to grow with them and it was a natural thing to shift my work in that direction.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d bring them to all my favorite places to shoot here in LA, which coincidentally I think are the prettiest and most interesting places in LA! Malibu Creek State Park, El Matador Beach, Switzer Falls, the LA Arboretum – all worthy spots to see. I’d have to throw in some of my favorite eateries as well, Mustard Seed Cafe in Los Feliz for breakfast. Joans of Third for lunch and Angelino’s Tattoria in Toluca Lake for dinner (the BEST pizza in LA bar none!).
