We had the good fortune of connecting with Fella Hadid and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fella, why did you pursue a creative career?
Being a creative is embedded in me, creating is a way of life, my way of life. I strongly feel that It is my calling to keep on creating and extend my creative spirit and heart to others via my heart. I aspire to do more, try and explore different mediums of art and continue doing it. I feel the most connected to my higher self and it is something that I don’t fully understand yet but it feels right. The goal is to be a beacon of hope and inspiration to not just other creatives but to the world in exploring and honing that artistic side of being human, self expression and celebration through art form.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One day, the things that I was meant to do some sort of just fell in my life, it feels like the world knew it was my time to exercise my talent and harness my full potential. As a model minority, in the beginning I was highly intimidated by the industry. My type of beauty and body statistics in a realistic point of view was not considered fitting for the stereotypical standard the society and the industry had set. I started about a year and a half ago and it was a rough start pitching myself to designers, photographers, and other creatives to work with me. I have gained genuine connection from different creatives in the industry that helped me to keep going and keep working. I would not have done it all successfully if it weren’t for people that believed in me even before i believed in myself. I have learned to just keep going because we have all the power to turn our dreams into reality.

I am also an artist who practice, painting, pottery, reworking and up cycling garments. Through these mediums of art, I’m able to connect with my inner self and bond with the spirit within me. I am someone who is always open to learn and adapt new skills to express my creative juices. The biggest challenge for me would have to be consistency, I noticed the more consistent I am with creative pursuits, the better i get the become, it more than just the end product or attaining the goals i set but more of I get and feel better enjoying the process and moments in between creating my art, pouring my heart. A designer friend ones told me that with art and fashion there’s actually no rules, just do you, give you, and that the right people or crowd will see and experience your work and connect with your heART.

I want to show to the world, that I am a living proof that anything is possible and attainable as long as you keep on working and doing the things that you love, that life is about perspective.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to Bitteroot Pottery and take a pottery class. Bitteroot is my “sanctuary” it’s where I zone out hand building art and wheel throwing. The views at baroque rooftop is beyond exquisite, and they have out door rooftop classes open to all. As a skinny legend that I am, I’m a big foodie, I would definitely recommend Bacari on silverlake, Cafe intelligentsia also on silverlake. Fancy dinner nights are the best at Meteora on melrose, San Laurel and Agua Viva by Chef Jose Andres in downtown LA at the Conrad Hotel. Sunsets are beautiful at Runyon Canyon a little city hike moment, El matador beach in Malibu is such a gem as well. For parties and drinks I would take them to kiss kiss bang bang in Ktown.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my lovely mother in heaven, I love you so much and thank you for being the source of everything for me. Everything that I do in life has always been and will always be dedicated to her. I look up to my mom so much and I’m out here in the world continuing the legacy she left. Growing up, she has always been the fashionista role model that I look up to. In a world full of negative noises, she encouraged and invested in my talent to pursue the arts. I am the creative that I am now because of her, and will continue living the life we both want for me, Im doing this for us.
