Meet Yo Quiero Silla | Artist DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yo Quiero Silla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yo Quiero Silla, what role has risk played in your life or career?
This is a great question.
For me, the first few years as an Artist are going to operate at a loss. Period. That is a risk that most people that want to “do what they love.” Aren’t prepared to take.
From finding your sound, demographic, rate, social media presence, overall image and straight up performance, all factors matter when it comes to risk vs reward. You must believe in yourself before anyone else through thick and thin.
It should never be fake it until I make it, it’s a face it until I make it.
I always say, when things happen that are out of my control come show day, I am my first and my last resort. So that means what you bring to the table day of show is what matters most.
That comes with years of experience, trial and error and narrowing down those specifics that makes you unique.
Confidence is key. If you are confident within yourself, others will be confident in you as well.
At times we must do trade. For example, performing a trade show in exchange for a feature in a notable magazine is not a risk vs reward. I also think it’s important to I’ve yourself quarterly and yearly reviews. Did I meet my goals this year personally and professionally? What could I do better. Did I operate at a loss or what it. Profitable year? What do I need to do to make myself better and do I need to possibly re-evaluate some relationships in order to accomplish more in the upcoming year?
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel like I didn’t get to start on ground zero. I had to build my way up to ground zero. I had a young mother who had 5 kids by 22. She just wasn’t able to focus and hone in on my talents cause she had 5 kids to worry about. So learning everything about the music and entertainment business on my own has taken a lifetime. It never stops. I say the music is my first language. I always had a passion and desire to be great since I was born. First off, I was born dead son Friday July 13th. And all I could ever dream about was being on stage, entertaining and giving people the most memorable time.
I got to where I am today by moving to Las Vegas. I worked at a tv station and it was too corporate. I was tired of being told what to say, how to say it and when to say it.
It most definitely was not easy. I had to create something out of nothing. And I didn’t know where to start but I believe my drive and talent would take me there.
Challenges have been there since I was a kid. For example, my father who raised me didn’t allow my sister and I to be in anything growing up. We had to be there for our brother. He was very sexist, strict and controlling. So when I turned 18, I moved out, and I finally got to pursue the desires of my heart. For instance, I wasn’t allowed to be in dance class, so my dance experience was dance auditions for the local professional teams. Then I made it to a semi professional team and that got me into choreography and teaching dance to kids.
When I visited Las Vegas I saw a world of dance and entertainment that was paid. I felt I could be me and not be judged for it. And found friends of all kinds who were similar to me that I could learn from and hang out with. I went from singing gospel music to country, found an agent, moved to Nashville. And was ready to be a country latin artist. That didn’t work out. and then I saw a female dj play at the Cosmopolitan and that changed my life. I said, I could do that for fun on the side. Being a starving artist was never in my life pursuit. So I went from djing as a hobby to my full time gig in about a year. Then agents came around again and asked if I make my own music and I said that used to. When I realized that most of the music I played in the club was made by the World Famous Club Killers, I realized that maybe I could actually make this happen. But what kind of artist would I be. I don’t believe in copying. I wanted to be unique.
It was Mexican Independence day 2018., Caesar’s Palace. I was opening and closing for Luis Miguel. I said I want to make an impact on my Culture. Regional Mexican. I noticed that there weren’t new sounds, not nearly enough female representation and I wanted to be part of the change. With the help of the Club Killers crew I met one of their remixer producers called Version Five & what started as one song, led to an album. I went on tour with a regional Urban Mexican artist by the name of Juanito El Millonzuki and Chaparro Chuacheneger. I learned face to face about the people of the music, fan base, and challenges. Regional Mexican still lacked female representation, it was traditional, sexist and conservative. I had an presenxe But I felt too ahead of its time.
Years later with the help of Peso Pluma, Grupo Firme, Fuerza Regida, Mexican music is not so Regional anymore and that makes room for artists like myself. The industry is improving but it will always be hard for females in a male dominant industry.
My goal in the future is to have my own label where it focuses on an environment that is safe, professional and where you can grow, develop and succeed as an Artist.
My mission in life since I was a kid was to create a safe space for people to be themselves. There is nothing more liberating than being authentically you.
Let your light shine.
I go by Yo Quiero because I was tired of being pushed to the back by burner. I want people to want me like they want food. And. When I feel enough people join the movement, I may just go to Silla but until that happens, it’s Yo Quiero Yo Quiero baby.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s easy. We’d stay at my condo overlooking the strip in Vegas, I’d be playing at either the WYNN or Tao. We’d definitely eat at Cathedrale inside Aria, get escorted to the club where bottle service would be met with lasers and a light show and a night of endless dancing where all your worries would be forgotten and living in the moment is your one and only priority.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say that I am Vegas Made & Vegas paid. Vegas discovered me and opened the door to take my talent to LA and around the world.
Caesar’s Entertainment who gave me my first start as a dj and gave me room to grow. Tao Group & Wynn Nightlife who recognized my work as an Artist and talents musically that wanted to take my talent to the next level.
My family. The sacrifice is real when you are stuck in your vision and on the lonely days, my mom and my sister have been there for me. Te Quiero mucho. And all of my friends who listen to me on the days that you feel like giving up and remind me of how badass I am. I’m so thankful for you all.
