We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalil Howe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jalil, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well I was already pursuing a modeling career and then I started doing some acting here and there so I was like let’s take this to the next level and use my entertainment name as my business. So I got the LLC, EIN, and business account. Then a website and I was off and running from there. I wanted more structure and I was always very professional but using my name for my business just took it to a new level.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Definitely Wasn’t EASY. In the beginning your trying to get your name and your work out there for people to see and hire you for photoshoots, runways, etc. so you definitely do a lot of stuff for free. But for me it was doing a photoshoot and being the clothes and the outfits to life in photos and on the runway is so much fun. Being able to walk in down it knowing you gonna kill it and the crowd just watching is for me so much fun. Also it’s challenging cause I’m independent, I don’t have a team or agency I find my own jobs and book my own jobs and just network just waiting for that one time I come across the right person or persons to take me and my career to the next level.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here in the Virginia area we have the 7 cities so we would start off checking out some restaurants in Virginia Beach area. Then threw out the week visit the oceanfront where the beach is at. Definitely on a Tuesday gotta hit up Taco Tuesday at one of the many spots to go to. Wednesday evening definitely hit up YouMeRnb Wednesdays at Guava. Definitely Friday we would hit up Soirée Bistro for a good happy hour vibe and great food. The Weeknd go back down to the Oceanfront and just walk the strip try out different food spots and bar hop and of course on a Sunday we Brunch.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout Luqman Haskett aka Dapper Luq. He is the one that gave me my first runway show. It was a Bridal Show and ever since then we have been great friends and he’s been a good mentor and always willing to give me advice or answer any questions I have about business and life. He has his own business Dapper Luq Collection and just how far he has come along since starting it is very motivating for me to keep pushing forward with my own goals.
