Meet MILAH RENEE | Director & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with MILAH RENEE and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MILAH, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
It helps the community by providing joy back into everyday people lives. Creating has been in my DNA since before I was born. I say this because my father was a photographer, producer and artist of life. I’m a true believer that some of my photography exhibits, songs and films I’ve written are stories that have been eye opening and messages that allows ones mind to reflect on life and transcend into greater consciousness.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I enjoy telling stories that will not only speak on the past, the present but also the future. I shoot photography, write stories, paint and write music. I’m the only me. I try not to compare myself to other artist. I’m most proud of accomplishing my goals as I continue to practice my gifts. Screened my film that I directed and wrote at the African American film festival in Detroit. I’ve been selected as one of the top 200
photographers at photo Independent exhibition in Los Angeles. I’ve screened a film that I executive produced at the Cannes International Film Festival, I had over 4 solo photography exhibitions, multiple group gallery shows, performed my
live music at many venues in the US.
I’m a mother now and have been working with architects to help build back a city I was born in. I enjoy not only meeting new people but helping them achieve their dreams and aspirations. Life always has its challenges, rather it’s maintaining balance, finances, etc, but I’m grateful to be able to continue to overcome. I’ve been through a lot in my past. Everything from losing a parent as a young teenager, to losing my grandparents. I’ve had a divorce and felt like a failure. Carried my son during a pandemic and was able to grow closer to God who gave me strength through it all. Like Destiny’s Child sang, “I’m a survivor”
All in all I’m grateful. Grateful for it all. I really wouldn’t be me without all of the experiences I’ve endeavored.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, I’m a home body so I’d definitely just cook for
my guest and have a party at my
house for them. If I had to take
them to some of my favorite spots in the city I currently live in, I’d take them to one of my favorite breakfast brunch spots called Legends, then to Belle Isle to walk off all the food. We’d then head downtown to Queens bar or Mootz for some Pizza. Then head over to listen to live music at the Willis and then maybe over to the Book Tower for some rooftop lounging.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
