We had the good fortune of connecting with Deidre Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deidre, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
“Let me do you for you what you don’t want to do for yourself”, that was my first motto. I knew I wanted to help others be successful and I wanted to make it easy for them to do that. I started as a booking manager for my cousin but I also wanted to be a support to others as well. I branched out and started marketing myself as a booking manager and event coordinator. God gave me the words Prime Sophistication during a time I was learning to love myself. Prime means of first importance; and Sophistication is the quality of being sophisticated. That’s how God described me and I wanted to offer that to others. It became Prime Sophistication Management in 2016. I networked, gained knowledge about business and then I rebranded to Prime Sophistication Agency because by 2018 I knew that this was something greater than me and that I would be offering more.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe my services set me apart from others. I offer over 60 administrative, branding, management, and consulting services that most people don’t think are important until they need it. I am proud of the longevity and reputation of Prime Sophistication Agency, I have gained over 700 clients in 7 years in over 20 states as well as internationally. It wasn’t easy at times but they were great lessons that molded me into being a better business owner. In difficult situations, instead of making impulse decisions, I used wisdom and asked for input and guidance from the Prime Posse and others. I have learned to never retaliate, that everything is not for everybody, to be consistent, and to keep some things to myself, I don’t have to share everything. I never had intentions on being a business owner. I thought I would become a lawyer but I stopped at Paralegal and realized that I’m passionate about helping and serving others. I am grateful that I have the freedom to assist people in achieving their goals, making their dreams come true and protecting their assets all in one.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In the city I currently reside, Columbia, SC, I would take them to all the good soul food spots like my Prime Client Ms. B’s Cafe & Grill on Bush River Rd or Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles on Two Notch Road. For good vibes and good music Seven Lounge and Concept for Brunch on Hardscrabble Rd. Of course we would have to go to Village of Sandhills to shop or even Columbiana Mall on Harbison Blvd. Shopping, good food and drinks, good music and good vibes are always top priority with my besties.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to Shoutout Brown Boss Collaborative, a community of black business women who support each other in projects, events, and day to day business activities. I would like to highlight the women who are apart of the collaboration and others because they have supported me and my businesses since its conception. In some way they have all poured into me and I hope I have done the same for them. They are professional business women in various industries and they deserve to be shared with the world. Tierra Richardson, Owner of Rich & Lavish Events
