We had the good fortune of connecting with Swam Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Swam, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Ever since I started working when I was younger, I always hated having a boss and knowing that I’m working really hard for a small hourly wage while making someone else tons of money. Also just seeing people getting stuck in the “rat race” where you are wasting all your time at a job that you don’t like and never changing anything always made me grind harder on my own. When I started doing audio engineering, videography and design for myself; other artists/brands would ask me who did the all the work so I came to a realization that what I was doing could be very lucrative. I guess after a while creating music, videos and graphics for others it just kind of took off by word of mouth and everything seemed to fall in place for me to start my own company doing what I love without me really planning it out!

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Right now I’m really excited to start releasing a lot of the new music i’ve been sitting on for a while! Also just the brands and artists that I will be creating visuals for in these upcoming months, I really want to take it to a new level and remain progressing with my style! I’ve made it this far by just not giving up (as cliche as that sounds lol) and looking to find inspiration in everything around me! I think it’s extremely important to find things in life that make you go harder and also remind yourself why you started in the first place, just really revisiting that feeling that keeps you going. Any dream that you pursue will have set backs and obstacles but I think a lot of times the way that it effects you is all perception, so when anything that was tough to get through along the way I try to find the positive in it and keep trucking. One thing I’ve learned though.. is stay consistent but don’t FORCE things, everything that is meant to happen will ALIGN when the time is right!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First I would take them through Topanga Canyon into the mountains and down to Malibu to hit the beach and watch some good surf. Then down the PCH to hit Venice and get some tacos from Teddy’s and some cold beers! When it hits night time I’d pull up to West Hollywood to hit a venue that one of my artist friends were playing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All of my close friends and family that have always encouraged me to chase my dreams! Anything I ever wanted or said I was going to do on my creative journey my family has supported my decisions by being super positive and giving me tips on how to bring it to a true reality. I have a close group of artist friends that are on the same path as me and we would all inspire each other when any of us made moves or gained some success in what we were doing! To name a few; some of the artists I’m talking about are JOYAGAINSTEVIL, Tyler Taz, Sexjacket and Press Kampe!
