We had the good fortune of connecting with Davin Tong (you may have seen him on TikTok and elsewhere online as his alias Peter Chao) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Davin, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Social impact can be measured in so many ways. In conceptualizing my content, I normally execute an idea or a thought simply to get it out of my head; this is usually something I find funny or will provoke thought. From there, how the audience reacts to the content is up to them, and over the years, people have shared with me that my silly videos helped them get through a tough day which is always very rewarding.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The film industry consists of constant challenges both mentally and physically. It’s important that in between projects and auditions, actors stay mentally fit. Social Media can play a crucial role in showcasing your talents to someone you may not know is watching; it could be a casting director, producer, or director.
Society has become so obsessed with the final product of something whereas my brand is more about taking people through my journey and personal struggle; this is an experience that opens the pathways of sharing empathy, and inspiring yourself to make fewer comparisons with other people, which as we all know can be a thief of joy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think to give a friend a worthy experience, I’d have to challenge them on a hike, preferably at a peak elevation so they can breathe it all in. From there, it’s all about supporting delicious locally-run food vendors so they can experience the love of my city through eating.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My gratitude to my agent Sara Parker from Principals Talent; she discovered me from my time on YouTube. She helped me realize a love for playing other characters and the grind of pursuing acting as a craft. Being an actor is a relentless profession to get into and having the support of an agent who believes in you is crucial to your development.
