Meet Mistress K | The Dominatrix Of Comedy, Producer of The Future Is Female Comedy Show & Drag King Klitus Black

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mistress K and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mistress, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business The Future Is Female Comedy Show back in 2020 out of necessity. I’m a female comedian in a male dominated field and a sex worker to boot. Plus, I am a Drag King. It was extremely challenging for me to be book for comedy and drag shows. It’s not surprising that the gatekeepers to the entertainment realm are men. I wasn’t seeing myself or my community represented in most of the comedy shows I was on or in the scene.
SO I thought to myself, if you can’t join them, beat them at their own game. I did just that. I was tired of being the token womxn on an otherwise all male lineup and not seeing diversity and queer people on stages. In Los Angeles, on November 5, 2020, I produced the first ever The Future Is Female Comedy Show with a hilarious all womxn line-up, providing comic relief during the height of the Global Pandemic. The outpouring of support and demand for another show proved the world needs more female produced, female supported and female uplifting comedy. We are now living in that feminist future.
I have been in business going on four years. I have built a platform and a community of feminist comedy, an inclusive team of talented performers. To not just build myself up, but to see others who I admire and deserve a safe place to perform, where their talent is valued. The Future Is Female Comedy Show is a platform for empowerment and equity within the comedy community. We showcase talented up-and-coming comedians, amplifying the voices of womxn, non-binary, queer, black, indigenous, and people of color from all over the US. Our feminist comedy shows bring diverse perspectives and line-ups. Shattering the glass ceiling one comedy show at a time!
I have produced over 400+ shows throughout Southern California, New York, Las Vegas, Minnesota, Arizona, and Wisconsin. From international zoom shows to local live shows, to cross-country tours and festivals, I have showcased, promoted, and paid talented comedians, clowns, drag performers, dancers, and musicians.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the dominatrix of comedy. I’m a Massachusetts native got my start in comedy by selling sex toys in people’s living rooms. Now I bring my whip and toys to the stage, telling jokes to the masses. I have performed in some of the most famous clubs in New York, Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, LA, and Las Vegas. However, I still enjoys performing in dungeons, dive bars, and any where they will have me. I’m the host/creator of my renegade variety talk show “The Closet with Mistress K” on YouTube and the Producer of The Future Is Female Comedy Show, a traveling feminist comedy show. My Kinky Comedy show that has been touring is the perfect marriage between the kink community and the comedy world. My stand up comedy is a combination of domination, kink and signed consent forms, but deep down I’m just a feminist trying to make people laugh so haaard that you will yell out your safe word!
Professionally, I have worked extremely hard over the past 7 years to get to where I am today. Comedy is so polarizing, people either love it or they can’t stand it. I know I am impartial, but I do believe it is that hardest art form. In comedy their isn’t a script, or music in the back ground, it just you, your thoughts, and a judging audience. It’s the only job where you actually need people to laugh AT YOU! As, a female in comedian I have had to work twice as hard to get on shows, prefect my material, and be aware of predators within the scene. One of my biggest challenges is getting paid equally as my male counterparts. I have been continuously given low ball offers, asked to work for free, or have lost gigs because someone will perform for free. Venues sometimes don’t want to work with woman and I’ve had to negotiate and prove my worth. I’ve constantly had people steal my jokes, ideas and intellectual properly because they were successful.
I’ve overcome these challenges by having a good support system of people I can ask for advice and support. I’ve also learning that if something is a great idea people who try to take it from you. Best way to overcome this is to keep creating new ideas and stay fresh. I’ve learned that you have to have a moral compass and a back bone in the entertainment business. Not everyone will like you or want to work with you…and that’s their loss. Find your tribe, your community, your fan base and continue to be humble and grateful for all the blessings. Furthermore, take your bow, acknowledge your effort, work, and determination. No one will give you credit for your work, so be your own cheerleader.
I’d like the world to know that my brand is kinky, funny, and dominating.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my all time favorite places in LA is The Short Stop on Monday nights they play all MoTown music. I love that place because there is usually an older Asian woman who where’s rave wear and glow sticks, she is such a vibe. As far as, comedy is concerned there are about a thousand small places to see comedy shows. So any local shows that have line ups full of womxn and diversity are great. A few Drag Queens to mention in the scene who are a must see are Ms Tiffany Vogue, Skunky Sweet and DIVOS so any show they have…yes yes yes! I would also like to mention the amazing Drag Kings in the scene Spacee Kadett and Watson Side who frequent shows at Redline DTLA. Food is amazing in LA, but best places are always the food trucks that are along side of the street in DTLA. Plus, have to give a shout out to Ironbark Ciderworks in Claremont, CA they have hosted my comedy and Drag Brunch Bingo. They are a feminist hard cider brewery that is an accepting place for all who frequent. Owner Cat Fleming has the best hard cider in LA area and her venue has some incredible live events.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicated this shoutout to all my friends, fans, and alumni of The Future Is Female Comedy Show. Without these folks my shows would not have been successful. Shout out to all the talented performers that have come to perform for for my shows and traveled across state lines with me for our art!
I’d like to specifically mention, my sister for always being my biggest critic and giving me advice on how to be better. To my friend Kim Wadsworth who has been a big sis to me, when times were tough and for her assistance in helping me with my merchandise. To Zulma Aguiar for helping me build a business plan and website. To my previous co-producer Breanna Kelly for always being my right hand woman, a true feminist, and a greatly talented friend. I’d like to thank my comedy professors Greg Dean and Gayla Johnson for helping learn the value skills of writing a joke and how to harness my talent. Especially, to Gayla who has been a mentor to me in this business. To my partner, Ray Upton who has given me his support, advice, encouragement and love. Additionally, I would like to thank all the clubs, venue owners and their staff who gave me a platform to perform on and made my job easier. Lastly, I want to thank all the haters and to the people who ever dissed and dismissed me. If it weren’t for your rejection and ignorance that ignited my passion to succeed and prove you all wrong, I wouldn’t have created The Future Is Female Comedy Show. Extremely grateful to all these people.
