Meet Sabina Horowitz | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabina Horowitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started working on my own designs because I wanted to create merch for my film channel. The goal was to sell some shirts and put that money towards a budget of each film I’d make. But I got carried away.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is inspired by dreams I have. I implement dream logic in my films, and a lot of my designs are based on something I saw in my sleep. There’s also this mystical, supernatural quality of life that I am quite fond of, and, I think, my art reflects it. I love Maya Deren, Lynch, Parajanov. When it comes to painting and prints, I get inspired by Esoteric art and Tarot, Jungian archetypes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d start with K-town where I live right now. “Quarters”, “Jjukku Jjukku BBQ”, “Yangmani”, “Dan Sung Sa”, I like those places a lot. “88 Hot Dog and Juicy” is an honorable mention, I just discovered that spot. Honestly, the list of food places is so long, there’s always something to try in every area of LA. My favorite place to be at is Hollywood Forever Graveyard, it’s just so beautiful and it has peacocks and a pond full of ducks. But if my friends don’t like it, I guess, we could go to Manhattan or Hermosa Beach, or Echo Park, and catch a sunset. I also like the view from the Boyle Heights Bridge. Old finance buildings in Downtown are worth seeing. A dispensary stop is a must, too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My granny, she’d always give me a little bit of money when I didn’t have it. My mom, my stepdad. But, I think that every person you come across contributes something to your art, in a way. It could be a thought or an idea they inspired, a feeling they left you with. It’ is you that has to connect the dots and make sense of it all, in the end.
