Meet Daniel Troia | Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Troia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, how do you think about risk?
I believe that many of our greatest accomplishments won’t happen unless we take a risk. Personally, the biggest risk I ever took was deciding to ride my bike across America without bringing any food or money with me. I felt nervous and scared before I started the journey but the experiences that happened on that trip changed my life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make bike travel movies that focus on celebrating the human spirit, My films are different than other bike films because they focus more on the people that I meet while riding my bike, instead of the competitive themes that most bike travel films focus on.
I am most proud of my latest film, “We Are All In This Together” because I have been using it to raise money for homeless shelters.
I got to where I am today by combining the skill sets that I have learned from education, travel, and hardships. For example, I learned how to speak Italian and Spanish in school and I used those skills to make bike travel movies where I communicate with people from different cultures. Also, I have been able to channel the sadness and grief that I experienced throughout my life and turn it into moments of compassion and beauty.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start off our day by going to the South Los Angeles Food Co-op to load up on some healthy, local snacks. Then we would grab our bikes and take a ride on the San Gabriel River Trail. I believe that the best way to explore a city is by bike, so we would spend the entire week riding through different parts of the city and supporting the local Co-ops along the way.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate the shoutout to my uncle John. When I came up with the idea of biking across America without bringing any food or money, many of my friends and family were very skeptical of the idea and did not want me to go on this journey. However, John believed in me from the very beginning and supported me throughout the entire process.
