We had the good fortune of connecting with Emo Kiddo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emo, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I’m relearning about my relationships with art. For me making comes before sharing. I don’t wanna make art just for the sake of sharing it with people. I’m learning to make art to share it with myself. I’m learning to make art to make myself happy. Sometimes making art could be a self destructive thing. I wanna make sure that I make art to make myself happy. Not for money or fame.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is pure and emotional. I just wanna make art to make myself happy now. I’m not doing art for anything else. I’m doing art so that I could be a happy person. I’m doing art so that I can live a fulfilling life. That’s why I make art. I don’t make art for the sake of anything else but love and intention. I use my color pencils in a very painterly manner. I love what I do and I wanna keep doing what I’ve been doing. My art means so much to me. The lessons that I learned is that art is not for fame or money. Art is for emotions.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I used to live in NYC and I loved going to SOHO. However I don’t live in New York anymore. I recently have gone back home to China. I love doing exercise and going to yoga classes. This is definitely something that I would love people to do more often. Staying healthy is so important. I’m not a huge bar person because it is too noisy for me. I also don’t drink. Honestly I don’t have any hobbies besides art and fashion. I also would love to show people nature. Nature is everything to me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanna shoutout to myself and my parents. They have been supporting me money wise. They don’t even have to do that but they are doing it. You can’t believe how much I appreciate them for doing that. I also wanna shout out you guys for liking my art and interviewing me. It is such a pleasure for me.
