Meet Mike Diamond | Interventionist, Best Selling Author and tv personality.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Diamond and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Perth Western Australia which is geographically the most isolated capital city in the world. Growing up in Perth was very trying and chaotic. My parents did the best they could with the resources the resources they had at the time but i was exposed to a lot of mental and physical abuse. I struggle at school as no one picked up that i had dyslexia so trying to navigate the formal education process was very difficult. Being under constant stress from my chaotic, dysfunctional family environment i started mood altering at an early age to try and find some peace and mind. Taking drugs and drinking worked until it didn’t work and i was expelled from school at 16. I finished my formal education at another school then decided to leave Perth after graduation and pursue my dreams. Looking back no at the adversity i face it was an asset. See we cant become resilient unless we are faced with adversity. Having to parent myself most of my early years and life has taught me to be self reliant, responsible and gritty. I now feel blessed not bitter from my past.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I write books, speak on stages all over the world and have become an elite drug and alcohol interventionist. Whether I’m writing, speaking or called to intervene to help someone who is sick and suffering my process is always the same. I use my life story, failures, setbacks and shortcomings to let people know we are all human and make mistakes. It took a lot of hardwork, studying and working with people of all walks of life to learn how to helps others live their best lives. I am always working on myself daily and are extremely disciplined. To me it’s work that never ends. I like to say it like this ABS- which means always be a student. We must always be willing to learn if we want to reach our full potential in life. My message is very simple i want help people live their best selves by helping them remove their disempowering beliefs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When people visit me from Australia they love to do the tourist thing. I usually have devote two separate days for a Disneyland and Universal Studios adventure. Being from Australia you don’t really get access to those two amazing attraction. I love Santa Monica so lunch on the pier is a must for me. Then a walk along the path down to Venice Beach. Having lunch on Sunset and a stroll down Hollywood Boulevard to the epic Chinese Theatre is a must. Being someone who loves live music and comedy i would make sure to take my guest to see a performance at the legendary Viper Room and either the Comedy Store or the Laugh Factory depending on the talent performing. You can’t visit LA without spending sometime on Rodeo Drive to see what all the fuss is about. Now LA is full of so many great restaurants so depending on my guests i would mix it up for them. For a fun night out with no frills and good burgers, fries, pizzas and drinks Rock and Reilly’s in West Hollywood is an amazing night out to listen to great music and let your hair down. If my guests like steak then Fleemings can’t be beat in my opinion. I am a fan of sushi so i would love to take them to Sugarfish on la Brea ave. Now I love a good Poke Bowel during lunch so i would have to have them trying a bowl as we made our way through Hollywood. After all that eating is done to burn off some calories I always love to take any of my Aussie guest to Runyon Canyon for a fun but amazing fat burning hike.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One of my biggest mentors is someone i never actually meet so to me they are what I like to call an indirect mentor. The late physiologist Vitor Frankel changed my life. Victors book Man’s Search for Meaning is a book that i constantly read and feel everyone should read it as some point in their life especially if they are going through adversity or trying to get over trauma. Victor was in three concentration camps and lost his mother, father and pregnant with in the horrific camps but never was resentful or felt he was a victim. Victor believed no matter what we are facing we can always choose our attitude.
