We had the good fortune of connecting with Mya Ayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my stretch therapy business in June 2020, right when Covid pandemic hit. And I. always called it a blessing in disguise, because I lost my job in February that same year and was really stressed out about what’s next. With the help of a few great friends I realized that now I have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain since I have no job at the moment. I had plenty of time, I had a place, Phlexx Lab, and I had my phone. That was enough to start the business. Stretching its a tiny niche in fitness industry, I didn’t have anyone as an example, so I had to sit down and figure out what I value the most and build from there. When building your brand by yourself, you learn as you go, though trials and tribulation. But I say, do what YOU think is right for you and right people will come. Your vibe attracts your tribe. You just need to start.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Its been four years since I started this business, and what I’ve learnt is you can never stop building and improving. Los Angeles is very saturated city when it comes to services, your job is to get better with your skills, learn something that benefits your business, and learn something else too. For example, I learn new stretches all the time, but I also have a basic massage certificate, it helps me know more about human body.

Im really passionate about what I do, I work with energies and do physical work. Anyone who come to see me rips the benefits of feeling great in their body physically and emotionally. That’s the greatest reward for me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love all the museums in the city, so I would definitely take them to MOCA and The Broad across the street, stroll though Disney Concert Hall, then take an Angel flight to Grand Central Market, grab something to eat there at Eggslut or Broad Street Oyster Co. and then walk down the. Broadway to historic Downtown to grab coffee or. drink at night at Standard.

I also love galleries on La Brea; that stroll can take you to the Grove and you can spend all day there enjoying the vibe!

Mr.Brainwash museum is a fun place to visit and after stroll through Rodeo dr.

I like my Hollywood sign and reservoir hike, I lived in the area for 9 years now, and this hike never gets old no matter the season.

Getty villa and museum are must visit gems of the city. You can spend there all day, it’s magical and picture op!

One of my. favorite restaurants of all are Petit Trois and their escargots, Perch and their “little bunny frou frou” raviolli, Pampas Grill, Toca Madera and Casa Madera, Bestia and Ardor at Edition.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mario Guevara, the owner of Phlexx, celebrity trainer, my great friend who believed in me, who offered a space for me to work and thrive. All you need is one person who sees you; because entrepreneurship is a lonely road, one day you feel like a champion, next day – like a looser. But with the right friend by your side, you won’t fall off this road.
